Nearly Impossible To Allow 1and1 Domains To Expire!

Last year I registered a bunch of domains at 1and1, but I've decided I don't want to renew. They sent me an email telling me that all the domains I purchased are set to automatically renew and that I would need to "take action" if I wanted to let them expire.

So I go to their website and find that you have to go through a whole seperate login system to cancel your domains.

I go to the seperate system and set one of my domains to Expire. It tells me that I have to respond to an email that will be sent (which never came) and that I have to print, sign, and fax a form to tell them that I want my domain to expire!

I've never had to go through hoops like this for any other registrar. I have over 60 domains registered with them, but it looks like I'm going to be transferring them all somewhere else so that I cancel them if I want.

It is a pain in the ass, for sure. I cancelled a couple of domains, the cancel thing says it's completed, but my account still shows them as 'waiting to be closed' and the two times I emailed support, they only responded with blank emails. LOL I haven't been too concerned about the $12 a year for two domains to actually bother calling them up about it..

I keep hearing random bad things about 1and1, I only have around 5 domains there but think I had better transfer them to godaddy or name.com for peace of mind.

I have always used namecheap and will only ever use namecheap. Even if their domains are slightly more expensive, their service is great. I buy all my domains by paypal which means they dont renew automatically. I suggest you take a look into them. Thats just my 2c.
