Don't kill the messanger. Some graybared categories. http://dmoz.org/Computers/Internet/Searching/Directories/ http://directory.google.com/Top/Computers/Internet/Searching/Directories/ http://dir.yahoo.com/Computers_and_...b/Search_Engines_and_Directories/Directories/ http://www.seochat.com/?go=1&option.../Internet/Searching/Directories/&submit=Check http://www.seochat.com/?go=1&option.../Internet/Searching/Directories/&submit=Check http://www.seochat.com/?go=1&option...nes_and_Directories/Directories/&submit=Check
Extremely interesting. The Microsoft directory hasn't been affected, but I haven't found an actual directory category. http://sbd.bcentral.com/ It is interesting that they would nail part of Yahoo's directory. Yahoo makes big money on their directory while Google isn't losing anything from their directory. I bet Yahoo's lawyers are going to have a busy week.
The messenger must live, very nice find, thanks. Any guesses why? It seems one category has been targeted in all cases, Computers > Internet > Searching > Directories
It must be run by a DMOZ editor. `whois` says: M, RICK 2505 ANTHEM VILLAGE DR STE E-525 HENDERSON, NV 89052 US
Thank you Air, for the heads up. I just went and deleted my directories category in my new directory. Just to be safe.
It could have to do with the directories that are listed on those pages that Google considered that list worthless overall.
I don't know, I just found it today. Actualy the Yahoo category still shows PR on some datacenters. But it's not cached. The interesting part here is that inner pages of these categories are also out of the index http://dmoz.org/Computers/Internet/Searching/Directories/About.com/ http://directory.google.com/Top/Computers/Internet/Searching/Directories/Yahoo/
Nice catch. Note it says (Our former directory has been retired) (As you say - all sites currently listed in DMOZ are owned by editors)
wouldn't you say that this comment is kind of ignorant since no one in this thread has said such a thing?
josh.nu makes no sense either but it explains this: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showpost.php?p=13519&postcount=3 from this thread . There is a lot more which could explain why Google is disregarding the page (just speculating). But nevermind, don't have time for it and I didn't do it
http://ranks.com/ has been removed from http://dmoz.org/Computers/Internet/Searching/Directories/ Allow a few days for the servers to refresh.
My Directories category is also showing the same. Trouble is, I can't remember whether it had any PR before. It's one of the oldest categories, but is is fairly deep. I think it should have a PR of 0 at least, not n/a (in Firefox)
I don't use the toolbar at all, the question is if Google indexes those pages or not. If the answer is no, there is a reason for it and in most cases ... the reason is not very good!
