The U.S. Nexus Requirement ensures that only individuals or organizations that have a substantive connection to the United States can register .US domains. To qualify for a .US domain, you must meet one of the following Nexus Requirements:

    * A natural person (i) who is a citizen or permanent resident of the United States of America or any of its possessions or territories, or (ii) whose primary place of domicile is in the United States of America or any of its possessions, or

    * An entity or organization that is (i) incorporated within one of the fifty (50) U.S. states, the District of Columbia, or any of the United States possessions or territories or (ii) organized or otherwise constituted under the laws of a state of the United States of America, the District of Columbia, or any of its possessions or territories, or

    * An entity or organization (including a federal, state, or local government of the United States, or a political subdivision thereof) that has a bona fide presence in the United States.

Why make things so complicated... If you pay than register whatever you want, that's my opinion.

You do NOT have to be a citizen of the US in order to own a .us name. That's only the first qualification of Nexus. If you can't meet that, they give you other ways to do it. I know of owners of .us names that reside in the UK, in Romania, in Holland. Re-read what bama boy posted and/or read the Nexus requirements.

All I know is that I won't have to worry considering I'm in the United States. Definitely will pass it along to my UK partners, though.

I think it is a fair rule, many other countries have the same rule. If you want a domain name and have no connexion to the .us then you have some other dozen generic domains to choose from, not a big deal.

(To buy a .eu domain you also need to be a EU resident or have a business, links, etc in the EU)

Yeah, well, that's not exactly true. While you won't get sued, you can have your domain name appropriated. I've seen this done several times, and with some very nice .us names.

.us was for public since several years ago, right?

But this domain is not good. if we forgot to renew, this domain have no extend for 1 month likes other domains.

No it has not. You're not allowed to buy .us domain is your not an American citizen or pernament resident. Neustar conducts periodic inspection to make sire that the requirements are met ;) In case of a litigation, you'd lose the domain.
