Any examples? I suppose if domain name sounds like 89suyiwu9uhskapple.com - you have nothing to worry about.

No problem at all and if your domain name is catchy you can sell it for a lot of money

I think that is a different case compared to what the OP is asking about. For one, those domain names directly translate to the actual product's name. The OP [from my understanding] is asking about having Apple, iPod, etc in your domain name.

You'll always have a chance of losing a domain name like this if you are squatting on the exact product name of something and can't prove you created the concept of the name without reference to the product at hand. TLDs with just ipod, apple, or mac though aren't going to get you sued unless you somehow piss off Apple somehow. Having a site called thebestipodforums.com I don't see Apple confiscating.

Apple is a bit looney tunes sometimes but if you take the proper precautions you shouldn´t have any problems

Great example of a case like this would be: ActiveDen.net formerly known as FlashDen.net. They were asked by Adobe to remove the Flash name in their domain.

It's up to you. I wouldn't want to lose a domain I worked so hard to build traffic and rank.

    Thanks for input

I am planning on selling the domain though and not developing it

And do adobe have the right to ask that, i mean flash is a normal word not like unique to them.

ActiveDen sells flash coded scripts and mini flash sites. If they were selling Camera Flash then it's a different story.

It's important to understand a few things.

First, a trademark functions as a source identifier of a product or service used
in commerce. When you see the name of a product or service, you identify a
single (or "permitted") source where to obtain it from.

It's said a gazillion times, but any word, phrase and even a name can become
a trademark. Not for their descriptive or common meaning, but rather for their
    distinctive use.

Shell and Head and Shoulders are descriptively common for the mollusk and a
person who's above the rest. But they're distinctively used (and commercially
successful) to sell petroleum and shampoo.

Using your example above, flash is common for the beam of light. But it's also
    used distinctively for software.

Enjoy since you decided to register the domain name despite what's been said
here. And be ready to deal with the results of your actions.

Just don't complain online about it if ever. You've been warned, after all.

I had an "ipod" related domain a while back. Got rid of it after Apple pursuing other domain names with iPod and other Mac trademarked terms in it. Best of luck.

    Wow, what terrible advice.

    http://www.apple.com/legal/trademark/guidelinesfor3rdparties.html

OP, I find it hilarious that you read the article about the dude recently losing a bunch of domains to Apple, yet you still registered the domain. Have fun wasting your time on it. ;) As soon as it gets to any profitable size it's likely to show up on their radar.

I'll post the link again in case you somehow missed it:
    http://domains.adrforum.com/domains/decisions/1294886.htm

Did you not notice that the guy lost domains EXACTLY like what you're describing that you registered?

    • blueipod.com
    • ipodkits.com
    • ipodaccessories.info
    • redipods.com

I really wish there was a facepalm smiley ;)

HERE ARE THE NAMES APPLE TOOK:

    blueipod.com
    iphonecheap.com
    iphonetoys.com
    ipodaccessories.info
    ipodkits.com
    ipodsbaratos.com
    macbookpro.biz
    macbookpro.com
    macbookpro.net
    macbookpro.org
    macfriend.com
    redipods.com
    macbook.us
    macbookpro.us
    macbooks.us
    macpro.us

Looks to be a real smart move. Have fun with that.

How is Ipod not the actual product name? It is the exact name of the product and he same type of names Apple has previously gone after.

These threads are like public IQ tests. Your scores are all posted on the door.

Even though people are always saying that all good domais have been snatched, but as a matter of fact, there are still many guys who are trying to register good new domains, this is just like a saying, it's not lack of beauty in the world, just the eyes finding beauty.
