Forum messed up after changing domain! Help?

Hello all, and thanks for this interesting forum, I am new here, and not very good with web design just so that is said!

I run a forum that has been down for months because I cant figure out how to fix it. It is all messed up, and all links on the main page points to the old domain which was .net , now I have a .com address.

    Here it is: http://www.dark-truth.com/forums/

I can not log into my manager account either since trying to log in also forwards to the old .net address.

However, it does seem like everything is intact, on my .com address, the problem being most of it except the main page is leading to the old .net site, so even the main page and background etc is displayed wrong. So, it does seem like all old files and posts and so on are stored on my new .com domain, but the problem being all links points to the old .net domain.

Is there any quick solution to fix this problem? I would actually like to copy the whole forum to a new domain I just got as I intend to shut down the old one, and the new domain is more suitable as a forum relating to the topics I have anyway.

Can I either restore the forum so everything looks and works correct on the current .com domain, or move everything over to my new domain, or both for that matter?

Any good info on how to proceed is most warmly welcomed and greatly appreciated!! I have struggled hard with this!

    Thanks and cheers mates!

Thanks but I am looking for some kind people sharing their knowledge for free just as I do myself in my areas of expertise :)

I just spent my last bucks for the new domain and webhost anyway :)

Anyone else feel like helping out?

Ok! its a css problem. Change the config.php and wherever applicable "the root domain" See your site source, it is still the old domain for css. You must change that!

Thanks I will try look into that. I managed to retrieve all original files from the old .net domain and have the structure intact in a separate folder on my hd, now i just need to see if i can get them to work properly if uploaded to the new .com domain

Should be somewhere in the settings part in the admin area. You need to specify your root domain correctly. If you want I can fix it (though it may take me a few minutes to figure out, as I'm not that good with IPB) for free.

    Dondon2d:

Thank you kind sir that is an extremely nice offer from you! :)

What do you need to do that, such as files etc? Or should I zip down the whole forum and send it over?

Can you PM me with details such as your email or wherever you need me to send such files?

I am not sure of what the old SQL database name etc was but I know the new, can this be modified in the old forum files to be associated with the new SQL as well as new domain?

PS for the guy who mentioned config.php - where is this? In the main forum folder all I find is conf_global.php

    Thanks again you're a blossom!

    :)

    An additional question:

I have installed a newer version of Invision on my new domain, but not set up any forums there yet as im waiting to see what happens with my old forum files.

But, is there a way to import the old forum into the new version of Invision, including all posts, settings, and so on?

    -Cheers again mates

    Update:

I opened the conf_global.php file of the old domain and forum and compared it to the new. There I found the url pointing to the old .net domain, so I updated this file with all info from the new forum, including the SQL settings etc.

But this file seem very open, I mean all login and passwords and all are there totally visible for anyone whom get this file, so now my next problem is: What settings do I need to add, I assume it is the Permissions settings, for this file as well as the various folders in the forum?

AND: Can I know simply copy the whole old forum with the updated conf_global.php file into my new domain and have things up and running like before?

I would just back up your SQL database and create a fresh new installation if I were you.

How do I back up my SQL database, where exactly is that located? I have all the directories of the forum and all files stored locally on my computer, meaning all posts and the forum design and etc should be there. My problem is moving this over to my new domain, I changed the conf_global.php file to reflect my new domain and the SQL database on there and uploaded it, but all links and posts still points to the old .net domain even if i changed the url in the conf_global.php file to my new .com domain.

Also, how will installing a new theme help me restore all my posts and forums? And how would I do that

What I want is simply (or hardly, as it seems) to move all my old forum categories, with all its old posts, to my new domain so all remains intact. So far no luck, and Im trying what I can here.

Sorry for being such a noob on this its my first forum and im not very experienced with it.. But thanks for you all helping me out here I appreciate it greatly!!!

    Blessings!

Ok well, I have deleted the v3 of IPB from my new domain, copied all the forum files from the old domain to the new domain, and updated the conf_global.php to reflect the sql database I set up at my new domain.

    Now I get this error:

    IPS Driver Error
There appears to be an error with the database.
You can try to refresh the page by clicking here

-Is this because the old forum originally was set up with a different database, and if so will it help if I set up a new database using the same name and login as the old domain? I set up a new database with different password and user on the new domain, but I did enter these changes into the conf_global.php file. Are there other files that need to be updated to reflect these changes?

    Thanks mates

SLight update: I changed some settings and now got:

    MySQL said: Documentation
#1044 - Access denied for user 'darktruthnet'@'%' to database 'darktruthnet_'

As a note, my old database is named darktruthnet_ and the username was darktruthnet but im a bit confused about godaddy because it has a "database name" and "description" and Im not sure if these need to correspond with the old sql database? And what is the "database name" and what is the "username"..

My new host doesnt support databasenames with _ , so I had to change the darktruthnet_ for something else. It also seem to use the same database name as username, while my old host had separate username , which was only darktruthnet as stated above withouth _

Now I created a new database name in my new host, and edited the conf_global as well as the exported database.sql to reflect the changes. I changed all instanced in both from darktruthnet_ to the new username. However I dont know if some parts are encrypted in the database, for example I could not find any instances of the username itself, nor my password, and both username and password is also changed due to my new host not supporting the short passwords which i had used in my old host..
