The competition refers to the search results found on the upper right side when you do a search on Google. It will says something like "Results 1 - 10 of about 1,040,000 for ______" 2. Does the age of the site/domain matter? While it is a factor when Google ranks your site, so even though it helps, it will not make or break your ranking. I have taken new domains and achieved top 10 rankings in as little as a couple of months, so I wouldn't worry too much about it.

@incomesinternational.com: I have yet to see a site get banned for using link wheels, and have been using them for quite some time. Do they frown upon using them? Sure...along with many other white or gray hat techniques. Bottom line: They work well, and we will use them until we see or hear that Google is cracking down on them. I asked the question because I needed to know before I considered using your service how you would approach such a situation. I don't disagree that link wheels work but Google has long frowned upon them. It was a genuine question from a genuinely interested person.
