What is the best way to build a website, for the best SEO results:

    a. URL.com/humanities/literature/Niccolo-Machiavelli/Principe/
    b. URL.com/Principe-Niccolo-Machiavelli/
    c. url.com/Principe-Niccolo-Machiavelli.html

    a. A complex website, with many levels, and a weak pr distribution ...
    b. and c. The PR is distributed well, and the density of the keywords is improoved. What do you think?

What is the difference between b. and c.?

There is no difference between b and c... seeing that they both contain the same keywords...

a would be best if you have a:
    URL.com/humanities/
    URL.com/humanities/literature/
    URL.com/humanities/literature/Niccolo-Machiavelli/
    URL.com/humanities/literature/Niccolo-Machiavelli/Principe/
If you don't contain one of those pages take it out of the url (like if there's no humanities section)

So that the organizational structure makes sense... If you just have 1 page on the subject than choice b-c is best. The added benefit to "a" is that it also ads in humanities and literature into your keywords which can be helpful for you SERP's in those terms... if someone searches for niccolo machiavelli literature choice "a" would therefore be the best...

You can still do pretty well without getting too deep on the directory structures.

    Wikipedia is a great example.

Related articles, linked to one another, have their own separate directories.

Say, a topic on tachyons (under quantum physics) has its own directory called /tachyons/ and a topic on quantum entanglement has its own separate directory /quantum_entanglement/ instead of quantum_physics/quantum_entanglement and quantum_physics/tachyons/
