All google does it buy everything. It even says in the bottom of that article they are buying the voip startup gizmo5. I just get tired of google buying up everything, and even more if they buy competitors.

Got to admire Googles business methods, if you cant do something very well yourself and someone else is doing it better... just offer them a ridiculous price for their business and problem solved.

I'm still waiting for the day when Google buys Microsoft and forwards all their domains to a comedy Bill gates parody website... ;)

@wayner that in mind will never happen a few reasons being that the US will not allow a monoply by google in the search engine market and they are already looking into the share that google have in the online advertising arena.Google's business model is 1st class as we are all aware but even they do have restraints,i could see the the microsoft and yahoo tie up being allowed as that would a wider choice for the consumer but never of these 2 being allowed to link up with google.

I'm going to set the record straight. Too many... uneducated people on Digital Point posting nonsense about Google / Microsoft and using the word monopoly 100% incorrectly.

You say this as if its a terrible thing to acquire someone. You realize the owners of Admob made a fortune. How is that 'bad'? All the employees, shareholders and investors also benefited. Everyone 'benefited' yet you make this sound bad.. Ridiculous.

You're also using the term monopoly incorrectly. Google does not have a monopoly on anything. The only monopolys that exist are government sanctioned ones - ie US Postal Service (No one can LEGALLY compete with them on delivering mail. Go ahead offer to deliver a letter from your neighbor to his friend - It's illegal to do so. You can be fined / go to jail for it). ANYONE can compete with Google - YOU can compete with Google. NO ONE can compete with the USPS because if you try, you WILL get shut down / locked up. It's illegal.

Notice the difference? It's illegal to try and compete against a monopoly. It's not illegal to compete against Google.

By definition a 'monopoly' is only ONE 'seller' in the marketplace with many buyers. Know how many search engines there are on the net today? Tends of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands. Only a handful of them are 'big', but the fact is Google isn't the only search engine - which by DEFINITION doesn't make it a monopoly, nor will it EVER be on unless the U.S. Government makes it law that competing with Google is illegal.

Google didn't need to buy AdMob. Their own Mobile ads program was running great.
Maybe its their hobby to buy one company a year :)

    i'm really glad!

    congratulations to Google!

they're great in everything they do, they were the 1st to give a 2 GB of storage for free email when MSN was 2 MB!

they're the 1st to offer Google Earth!

and the list of services they offer goes on and on...

monopoly in Internet is just impossible, Internet is huge, you can't buy off every successful site :)

It looks like Google is taking a lesson from Microsoft's book to buy up everything. Everyone used to ask the same kind of questions when they were buying up smaller companies.

Looks like they are working towards improving their AdSense for Mobile offering. They will do to AdMob what they did to Feedburner (AdSense for Feeds). A smart move, you have to admit.
