This is a 48 hour auction

    TopRankDVDs.com

TopRankDVDs.com is a USA Amazon affiliate site that has not been promoted for some time. I find that I do not have the time to build traffic and promote several of my sites due to the workload with other projects and priorities. The site has good potential for someone who wishes to promote it with AdWords or Yahoo advertising. The buying season is just about to begin!

TopRankDVDs.com has been up for almost a year and was built using the Ghostscripter Amazon Shop script 5.0.4. The visual design has been modified extensively and is unique. I have not sold nor do I intend to sell any copies of this DVD site.

The script uses PHP and REST (REST is used by 80% of Amazon’s affiliates) to pull live data from Amazon’s affiliate server. It uses a MySQL database for storing some of the data, such as configuration info, Featured Products (Hottest Movies shown on left-hand column) and (Hot Deals on lower portion of home page). Script is easily modifiable with intermediate PHP and MySQL skills.

    Features:

    * Great domain name!
    * Set up for DVDs from Amazon USA. It is possible to customize the script for other Amazon locations, but I have never done this.
    * Fully editable version of the PHP script, not the Zend encoded version
    * Shopping cart – a rare feature on Amazon affiliate sites
    * Built-in HTML cache - another rare feature
    * Included is a custom script that automatically refreshes the Hottest Movies shown in the left column on the home page. The script pulls in Amazon’s Top Sellers for browse node 130 (DVDs) and then pulls in the image URLs for the product ASINs (Amazon product numbers). You can manually select and maintain these items in the administration section of the site, or you can run the custom script manually to refresh the list, or you can run the script automatically via a cron job. Automating the process assures that the best selling DVDs are always displayed. When the script is run, it e-mails a report. The e-mail verifies that the script ran properly. Sample E-mail

    * Also included is a custom script that can be run manually or via a cron job that clears the cache. The cache on the site tends to take up a lot of disk space when the site gets a lot of traffic. It’s a good idea to clear the cache nightly to help keep the site maintenance free.
    * Altered text for product User Reviews. I will explain this to the buyer. It can be shut off, if desired.

    Traffic Stats:

The site currently has over 5,000 visits per month and is growing rapidly. It looks like it could hit 6,000 this month. That’s not bad considering that there hasn’t been any AdWords or other promotion at all since about March. All current traffic is natural and growing.

Here is the Webalizer data for the site for the past several months:

    Overview

    Revenue:

I recently added the AdSense ads. AdSense revenue is currently minimal due to the ad positioning on the pages. I didn’t want to draw too much traffic away from the sales, so the AdSense ads are not placed optimally. $3.00 in AdSense revenue for August and $4.75 in September.

I wasn’t tracking individual site sales for most of my Amazon sites until late August. The site sold 23 units in September, with $16.61 in commission revenue for 19 units that shipped thus far. This is with 100% natural traffic and no advertising or promotional activity.

Here is the best method that I found for selling DVDs. If you are going to promote the site through AdWords, focus on promoting popular DVD collections that sell for $60 to $100+. I’ve also found that you can sell a boatload of DVDs every time a popular Hollywood celebrity passes away. When Don Knotts (Barney Fife) passed away in February, I ran low-bid AdWords ads that sold dozens of Don Knotts DVD collections in the first few days. Make sure that you point the ads to the specific product page for a targeted product.

Here is the reason why everyone who owns Amazon affiliate sites should have a DVD site. Although the commission revenue per unit sale is not very high, you can sell a lot of DVDs. Amazon commissions are driven by sales revenue and quarterly unit sales. Units are based upon the total units sold during a quarter by all Amazon sites in your account (consumer electronics is an exception).

    1 to 20 units = 4%
    21 to 90 units = 6%
    91 to 330 units = 6.5%
    331 to 940 units = 7%

    Requires:

Unix or Linux server running Apache and PHP 4.2 or newer, and a MySQL database. Your server needs to be able to make external calls to the Amazon server. Most servers do allow this, but some of the free and bargain hosting arrangements do not. You may have problems with Amazon sites at hosting companies like DreamHost that restrict services and do not allow overrides in the .htaccess file. Instructions for the setup are included. It is pretty simple. If you are a complete newbie with Amazon, I can provide assistance to get you going.

You will need an Amazon Associates ID. The Associates ID is used for tracking sales.

You will need an AdSense ID, or I can remove the AdSense ads.

    Terms:

    Payment by PayPal

Free domain name push to a GoDaddy account.

There are two royalty free iStockPhoto.com images. One is the girl on the home page and the other is part of the logo. They must either be licensed ($1 to $2 each), removed or replaced.
The iStockPhoto.com image file names are included with the setup instructions for the site.

I paid $110 for the license. I don’t know if it transfers, but if it does, it goes to the buyer. If it doesn’t, licensing is the buyer’s responsibility. Additional site licenses were only $10 the last time I checked.

This site is being sold as-is with no guarantees for traffic, revenue, rank positions, future PageRank, etc. I will be glad to answer any questions and help the buyer get it set up.
