Have a quick question about DMOZ...I signed up to a category and was successfully included but I did a search for my site on there but it is no longer listed. Admitedly my site was down for a few months but there was still a holding page so if it sent something to automatically crawl my site it wouldn't have received an error. Was just thinking, I think DMOZ is manual submission and acceptance but would the owner of the category visit all of the sites one by one? Maybe this was why I was removed?
The category is located here http://dmoz.org/Regional/Europe/United_Kingdom/Business_and_Economy/Telecommunications/Mobile/Services/Ring_Tones,_Graphics_and_Logos/ My site is www.blingtones.co.uk
Off topic to your query but ... I just tried your site over a 45.2 connection and it took an exorbitent time to load. You might consider a redesign that loads quicker. Shannon
I'd go ask in resource zone- when a site is removed, there's a comment left, perhaps they'd be willing to give you the comment that was left.
Ouch didn't realise it took so long Because I have broadband I guess I wouldn't have noticed this as much, will try and optimise the queries that I have running as this may be the problem because there aren't many images on the site
Thanks a lot Gooner, the company that I was a kinda affiliate created a template site for me to link to which contained more content for me to sell and I have just read now that they clamp down on sites just offering affiliate stuff and not offering unique content which is fair enough...also I think there was something in the women mobile phone wallpapers on there for someone to give this comment...http://resource-zone.com/forum/showpost.php?p=11030&postcount=16 (I was so when I saw it included my site's name in the URL, must have been my template site which was removed a long time ago when I left them) Unfortunately I submitted again earlier so will have to contact a moderator to explain situation and see what happens Your help has been much appreciated people!
Just out of interest Gooner can you point me to the edit logs? Or maybe you are a moderator yourself and this is only accessible by you guys?
You have to be a DMOZ editor to view the logs - Stealthnet came up a couple of times in notes to do with your site, which is (as far as i can tell) the main reason your site was removed.
OK Well I'll try again, if I'm not succesful then there are always other ways to promote site, DMOZ would been a bonus though Thanks again Gooner and others
I submitted and resubmitted my site at least 5 times in last one year and finally it was listed in DMOZ. Why does it take so long. Now will it be permanently listed as with Yahoo. Also is it really all that worth to get listed in DMOZ. R.Anand
Was shocked when my sisters site picked up a couple of hundred links after being listed in DMOZ. In her field it appears many topic specific directories used DMOZ listing as source of their directory listings. I have not noticed this for my other sites in other categories. Shannon
Re #3 You can ask in resource zone - but you won't get an exact reason, sites like yours in general will not get listed in DMOZ. They may get in for a while then removed later. Post #10 is probably correct. Examples http://resource-zone.com/forum/showthread.php?t=11533&highlight=tones http://resource-zone.com/forum/showthread.php?t=6538&highlight=tones http://resource-zone.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1528&highlight=tones http://resource-zone.com/forum/showthread.php?t=573&highlight=tones I would suggest you spend your energies somewhere else.
