Well, this seems pretty strange. How do they know the last 4 digits of your CC? You better contact paypal.

Maybe the caller wants you to trust that he/she is the representative from Paypal by saying that he/she knows your 4 CC digits. Be alert on how the caller talk to you. Did he/she call your name correctly or only Sir/Mdm/Ms?

In this case, you better contact Paypal for clarification. If this happens to be a real scam, you can make a report on the spot.

It is just tele-phishing. They get your credit card numbers from underground sites that deal in selling credit card numbers entered in not-so-secure sites. Then they take a 50-50 chance by saying they know your credit card as entered on paypal and even give out that same exact credit card number (4 digits) and then they ask you for the password to your paypal which is when it should ring 'danger bell' in the mind. Paypal doesnt ask passwords on the phone.

I would contact Paypal directly, as another member suggested also. It sounds weird, and since when do they just call you out of the blue anyway--what was the reason--sounds fishy--maybe they wanted to get some info out of you--there was an Paypal email scam going on not that long ago--so be careful who you give your info to--they'll clean you out without thinking twice about it!

Got to admit that I'm curious. Did you believe that they knew the digits or did you ask them to confirm it? Or did you just take that at face value when he said that he knew?

Call them and confirm its them. Once when i called paypal customer centre, my phone was attended by a lady with chinese accent. Also i've heard lot of paypal employees are chinese. So there is a chance.

Well as long as I know Paypal doesn't tells you that they know your last 4 digits of CC.

Infact they ask you to tell your last 4 digits to verify your identity.

Moreover, You can tell them that you don't want to verify your identity. And would call them back in a moment on the number that is listed on paypal website. And then only give your last 4 digits of CC to verify yourself. ;)

If it is real paypal then they should have no problems with that. :)

Just make sure that your paypal account is not hacked.
If someone hacked your Paypal account, the last 4 digit is available to see, uh?
Then, it might be used for social engineering and steal more info :p
    just my 2 cents :D

Paypal will contact you, only if there is some unauthorized transaction of very heavy volume, to check. I have heard them calling people on Ebay and PP users in teh USA, never for India. Moreover, no PP employee will ever say that they know your CC number. You should tell them, great tha you know my cc number. If they ask you to verify your identity, tell them you will call up PP yourself and do that later. Mostly PP will only contact thro email, never thro phone. Take my word
