No matter what we say, even if we point them to the Google guidelines, they still feel they want a guarantee, which we will never give. The other day, an SEO company visited my office and talked about how they can guarantee blah blah blah, and I just listened 15 minutes without interrupting them.

Then I have asked them 1 single question;

I will give you 10 keywords, and when I'm #1 on google organic SE results for these 10 keywords, I will pay you $1M /month.

I told them I can get a contract ready within a day if they agree.

Of course their guarantee blah blah words started changing

They started talking about the costs to start this project, etc. etc.

I gave them some SEO advice about their SEO site before they left my office

Ofcource these offeres need to be avoided at first sight. I believe no SEO can guarantee that.

These are not scums. There are methods exists that help the website owners to increase it's traffic. Directory submissions are not bad at all, Paid listing to PPC increase traffic, Every one wants better rank and expect results from his/her website.

Ofcource google has no relation, but you must see the other side of coin. A SEO can help webdeveloper to ceate a spam free website, suggest considerable changes to better palcements, and many more suggestions, so that website owner get maximum value of it's investments. SEO can help to create a website that meet the standards set by specific search engines.

Content is not the sole factor that increase sales or better placements. Now the key phrase is "Quality Content is the king" Not just "Content is the king" Designing a SE friendly website not just include the onpage or offpage optimizations, it includes several other things i.e. Web design SE friendliness, Usability analysis, Accessibility analysis and visiblity analysis.

It also includes relevant link building process and many other processes, that help the site owner attain maximum benefits.

Point ios one should analyse the both side of coin. When there is bad exists, good also exists.

No can guarantee, but there are hell a lot of people who are still using the service of people who guarantee website placements….

So until there are people to pay there are people to guarantee….

 

I think that, in very special cases, SEO's CAN guarantee your placement in first position ; examples: when you want to appear for your own company name (and the name is something unique), when your niche is local and after a detailed analisys they conclude that the competition can be outranked with minimal effort...but, then again, this doesn't happen too often.Other than that,no one can guarantee good rankings.

 

No company can know SE algorithms hence to tie anything to a variable like that is like ' trying to raise capital for mission to mars'.

It's true that no one knows the SE alogorithm, But how many of real world customer knows the fact that Some Development company have designed a spammy site? or is it not ethicle to create a site that meets the requirements of SE's?

I am agian saying that there are good or bad exist together and depends which way you are going. No one can just rule out the existense of SEO. The latest example of a Digitalpoint thread on "Google PR updates" resulted more than 400 posts in just 3 days. Comapnies like metamend, bruceclay exists on plannet too

 

Need to understand what SE's are like deliver. When you search for a domain name, it shows the information related to domain, that does not mean that it is a keyword.

Keyword positioning is something different and it needs a dedicated hardwork to achieve that. SEO/SEM's are here to stay and ofcource those who look for short term gains by offering packages from heaven using spammy techniques will be filtered out soon.

 

Hey sipltech , I was reffering not to the domain name but rather to the company name which inevitably would appear within the site ; if that company name is an unique word/phrase, meaning no one is targeting it ,it would be safe to say that the domain will have guaranteed top listing for it.This is a general rule, the SE will rank you fast and guaranteed for kw that no one else is targeting.

The top 10 for what? Pretty much anyone can be in the top 10 for something -- just not necessarily something useful.
