Is their anything I can do about this? I look to see that I've spent 250 dollars over the past 2 hours because I accidentally put 40 bucks instead of cents...ahhhhh I can't believe this. Is this permanent or can google take a look at it and know that I didn't mean to price it that high?

You are responsible of your account.

Just change your daily budget and your max. bid.

The only way this can be undone is if it was an error. If it was a mistype by yourself. I don't think there is anything to do.

Well I just read that someone made a huge mistake on putting traffic from the UK to the US and they emailed support and they refunded half of their money, so hopefully I can at least get something out of it because from my account history they should see that it was an honest mistake and I was for sure not trying to put my bid all the way to $40 dollars.

Although, its obvious that its a mistake from your end, it seems very doubtful that you'll get your money back...I believe it would be solely at Google's discretion!

...although, would be interesting...please keep us posted!

Why wouldnt you double check your daily budget or your input? This is just common sense.

For someone who just types in a amount and then closes out of there adwords account should expect this.

Google is not going to refund this and i dont think they should either.

"250 dollars over the past 2 hours"
You must have received a lot of traffic from those $250 or the clicks were too expensive. What was your average CPC? Usually it goes from 15 cents to $1.50, depending on the niche. I am using AdWords, and it can easily spend your money in a few days even if you set a normal max. bid. Didn't you set your daily budget? If you set your daily budget to something lower than $250, then it would not spend $250 like it did for you even if your max. bid is $40.

In the trading world (markets) it's called "fat fingering" or "fat fingered". You hit the wrong key and the order went through. Sometimes these things can be worked out... not always. Contact them and give it your best shot.

I have done the same thing in the past as well. Paid $24 for a click in a fairly uncompetitive niche.

I would never trust cpc with google as they totally abuse the good faith you may have for it. No way ever would a click be worth than $5.

    Live and learn i'm afraid

Google gives you the option of paying the maximum CPC in Google adwords account. If you put high budget by mistake or intentionally, how will this effect Google ? Google can say that you have put high budget to get more clicks. Now the mistake is done, it's better to rectify it. Reduce the maximum CPC to the fair amount as per you. Forget about the money gone. It will not come back.

I know why you entered 40 instead of 0.40 because you thought it was in cents and not dollars because it is hard to believe people are bidding $1 and over to get clicks, but there are some people/companies who bid above $1 and that's why you need to get used to the pricing. AdWords has become dominated by the big companies who will outbid anyone at any time of the day just to stay at that top position which is ridiculous if you ask me. They should check where their marketing departments are wasting their money because no click is worth over $10 unless you sell nuclear weapons online. Just because someone visits your site does not mean they will buy something from you as many people click ads out of curiosity. So that $10, just went down the toilet. Correction, actually it went into Google's pocket. ;)
