Hi, I was just wondering how DP started off. I know all website's and forums have to start somewhere and with 0 posts. If any of you have been here since the beginning, how did the posts accumulate so? Lee.
I haven't been here very long. I did read a thread that said in part that Shawn started it because he had been banned from so many forums that he just created his own. It was also meant to support the DP site. As sometimes happened the subdomain might be better known than the domain. Keep in mind that all of this is repeated gossip and I have no actual knowledge of the events. Maybe the big guy will post in this thread and tell the real story.
from what I remember Shawn saying directly, it was initially a way to streamline support for optigold. but don't count on me being right there. I posted a decent bit when things were relatively new. apparently I was one of the first 500 members. it's so crazy how this place has taken off. I actually kinda liked the small-community feel in a way. still incredibly impressive what he's managed to accomplish with it though.
I wasn't banned from any forum... as disgust mentioned, it was a way to support an existing users base. If you really want to see the first post, it's over here.
Not really... check the stats: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/faq.php?faq=dp_faq#faq_statistics The co-op was launched in June (maybe July) 2004.
And darned clever marketing for the kick off post. You had them coming back for months to play the bar code challenge. By then they hooked. BTW, best wishes on that legal business.
