I have done some hard work researching and updating my list of Directories Stored on the Same IP. You will probably be surprised at some of the directories on the list. I also created a new list of Directories Stored on the Same IP C Class Its a lot of work to keep things updated and then present it in a easy to use way. I decided to start including information within the listings of Web Directories. If someone want to check on a directory they can do a search on it there. You can find out if it has duplicate IPs or duplicate category structures. This would be useful to anyone that does a lot of advertising. The list now has almost 3200 directories listed. If your directory is on the list, contact me once you have changed your hosting and I'll be glad to remove it.
I wanted to really thank you for that alternative link on your site up near the header. This is very much appreciated. ++
Why some really good directories like Octopedia and many other premium directories use shared IP I don’t understand this At my Ask Directory I am paying $2 extra a month to have a private IP but I think is worth it, don’t you?
It took some time, but it was done over the last year and a half. I just cleaned it up recently and made it a little nicer to look at.
I have been maintaining if for a while now. I just hope it doesn't keep growing. I am starting to new directory owners that don't have a good handle on the issues involved.
One of my biggest issues with my current host is that they won't give me seperate ip's for SEO reasons. So instead I find other ways to get around this problem but I am thinking of moving to a VPS and they all seem to give you as many ip's as you need. On the issue though I don't think it effects you negatively if you have a couple of dozen links from the same ip's, I think the problem would only come into play if you had 50 or more (just guessing at a number) coming from the same class c ip.
Sites on the same ip, depending how you look at it can be good or bad... Bad: Site is trying to make more money, spends less time on and are likley to be poorly maintained + bad for Seo if the site is the same on a diff domain name as Google penalises duplicate sites. Good: The owners may want a different type of directory so why change the ip. Its you outlook on the issue if there is one...
You may be right. It is likely that additional links from the same IP are simply ignored. From the submitters point of view, there are so many directories to choose from, why choose directories stored on the same IP. It gets exponentially worse if you are paying for it.
