Ok, so last night i got a few emails from godaddy saying that a third party has found that my whois info on one of my domains is wrong and that they are going to charge me a $9.95 Administrative fee (just for sending me the email i guess???). Now i have lots of domains on different registrars and this one happened to have the phone number missing, which i updated? I called godaddy and asked them if i could have the fee refunded and if everything is ok with the whois info and they said it can not be refunded and they have no idea if it is ok. I would have to contact a third party site that informed them and they gave me the email. Is this normal??
It is normal for GoDaddy to charge an administrative fee for potentially incorrect WHOIS information if they received a complaint. I don't have a record of many other registrars that do this or something like it.
That depends how you define normal. But as AssistantX said, they do charge that fee if one doesn't correct their WHOIS details on time. Other registrars tend to shut down the domain name...or worse.
Feel free to review GoDaddy at my site Btw...I am using GoDaddy too and I use Private Registration so no info about me at WHOIS but info of proxy...How is sound?
yea, but i never got a warning before this. This is a fee for getting the warning???? They said if i don't change it in 5 days my domain is gone, then i asked what was wrong with the whois (at the time i didn't know) and they said they didn't know and that they just had a complaint from a third party and that i needed to contact that third party.
This doesnt sound right. Are you sure that it was godaddy that charged you and not a third party scammer?
Charging for incorrect whois information? Godaddy sinks to another low. Glad i don't have any domain with them. It's obvious Godaddy are a rip off (9.95 for private whois) so you will pay them another $9.95 fee for some admin person to enter a phone number in their records ? Sorry to hear that. Change to another company.
Yes i am sure, i even called there support to confirm it My first thought was scam... but i was wrong i guess. but i use godaddy a lot and it would cost me a lot to transfer my domains so i have to live with it for now...
even they scam people when they receive hosting related complaints ( etc proxy etc ) though you are not hosting in godaddy
