This is just ridiculous Google: Results 1 - 10 of about 7,780,000 for (my keyword) MSN: 1-10 of 233,974,060 containing (my keyword) WTF? Where does MSN get all these extra pages from???
It is weird, this is what I get: Search: Homeless Google: 12,100,000 Yahoo: 13,400,000 MSN: 245,475,238 Search: Life Coach Google: 12,900,000 Yahoo: 16,900,000 MSN: 241,972,635 What the? Y and G must be ignoring files while MSN is counting every mention of the word or phrase.
Maybe MSN just shows more? After all, if you do a link: search in G and MSN, G will turn up a lot more, just because they choose to actually show the user what is in their database, which G doesn'.
perhaps its normalizing, or as john said, the numbers are just changing while they are house cleaning, but here is what I have today: Google: 6,480,000 Yahoo: 7,750,000 MSN: 974,786 So, I'm getting the exact opposite for my keyword?? Odd. I tried several other unrelated keywords and they all seem to be consistant. MSN is significantly smaller result sets than the others. (at least for today)
Using the same unitial keyword Google: Results 1 - 10 of about 7,970,000 for (keyword) MSN: 1-10 of 228,964,424 containing (keyword) Nope, still the same
hmm, odd. Wish MSN would give us a dose of consistency. Perhaps its just the different terms we're using. I even checked to see if my advanced search settings were different than default. But then, I checked the same keywords just now and now I'm getting 225,608,744. I'm not on crack and I had my caffeine this morning. I pasted those results directly from MSN in my earlier post.
A similar strange thing happens when i do the site: and link: command. MSN list way high numbers (more then what is in my site) then when i click on the last page, it goes to ther proper number again. Seems the original reporting number was being inflated.
Not only do they overestimate the number of websites, they still sometimes drop that last listing on the page - Showing 1-9 out of 250,000.
awesome house cleaning thats my keyword ,im in luck! Im just going to sit back and watch my pr jump lmfao.
When I do a link search on MSN, the total it gives is the same on up to page 7, but after page 7 it starts showing a lot higher total number. Which is true.... Neither, probably.
is it possible that msn lists the pages that contain the term, whereas google lists only the main domain?
M$N seems to have now settled down with more realistic numbers for total pages found. I guess they had some database issues
