Yahoo to use Bing SE not good for webmasters

It has always been my opinion that we need more competition in the Search Engine market. If the current news that Yahoo will now use the Bing search engine is true, it is not good for webmasters.

I realise that there are more newbies in DP nowadays who believe that everything is Google and should be Google and nothing else matters but Google.

The fact is that the less SE you have, the more competition you have SERP-wise; the worst thing would be having only 1 SE. If you don't rank there, SE traffic can be non-existant.

What are your thoughts on the current Bing/Yahoo deal?

my biggest question is whether yahoo gonna use bing's Algorithm to sort result/ranking?

As Bing will be powering the results, the sorting will be theirs as well.

well, i have been posting my comments on several threads regarding this issue, and i have been saying that i dont like google's monopoly, i have nothing against google BUT the current market is so saturated that you need competitors, i welcomed bing gleefully, i also did my part by making it my homepage lol, so that it ranks better, atleast i did whatever i could do for bing. If bing can compete with google then my personal view would be that it would help, realllly help the webmasters, as bing will give another dimension to the search world, plus bing will give you an extra supply of traffic. If yesterday we were getting 80% of the traffic from google today we might get extra from bing AND we might get new users through bing. I didn't know yahoo was doing this, but for me, if yahoo could also come up with something like bing, including its own algorithms n mathematical equations then life would be a little bit easy for webmasters.

That is not something a webmaster should want (unless you mean take down Google's share rather than take them down completely).

More competition (to a degree) in the SE market is better than having a monopoly.

To be honest, I am in favor of Bing powering Y! search. I think Y! search has been absolutely awful for a very long time and that as a result, people use G search more than they otherwise would. In other words, I like the idea of serious competition.

I agree with you to an extent ... we have a Google monopoly at the moment with competition from Yahoo until now and MSN/Live/Bing a distant third. Now we have the potential for a Google/Bing duopoly, which I think is only slightly better than a monopoly. It would be even better to have more competition; unfortunately Yahoo has retreated from search for a while now.

SEOs serve mainly online businesses... most agree that Yahoo has a better conversion ratio even though majority of the traffic was from google... but with bing on the scene they are competing for search... and the 'rich' results may not always display online businesses... i've noticed that most searches to bring up pages from wikipedia for certain keywords on bing and this has now also started with yahoo... if this is the case where do SEOs turn to?? is it work harder and not smarter now? pay more SEs for inclusion/placement? and since BING and YAHOO will maintain separate sales forces with separate ad campaigns with the pricing being set at MS isn't this worse than a monopoly... i'm rambling 'cuz i've lost top ten placements for majority of my websites yesterday.. sorry for that

It doesnt matter at all, all search engines work the same in principle atleast, and the yahoo deal would only create a worthy competitor for google.

I don't like this too.
Most of my traffic comes from Google and Yahoo Search. Very little is from Bing. So if Yahoo Search and gets replaced by Bing, I'll be loosing a good chunk of my traffic.

Here are my search engine stats:
1. google 216
2. yahoo 150
3. bing 10
4. search 2
5. alltheweb 1
6. altavista 1
