It seems that Uncle Sam is lost and needs some direction from citizens on ADWARE/SLIMWARE that is a great problem for all computer users. The FTC seems to side with the scumware makers, it is funny that the agency that is supposed to protect consumers, protects scumware makers instead. http://www.boston.com/business/technology/articles/2004/05/03/whether_its_adware_or_spyware_beware/ We need to get some new leadership at the FTC
Ads. Another great reason to switch to Safari, Mozilla, Netscape, or FireFox. You can block them all!!
90% of desktops are Windows, so that ain't gona work, M$ has to build in protection into the OS. Do those browsers stop cookies and active X stuff from loading?
Cookies? They can. You have settings like.. accept all cookies or accept cookies only from site's i surf to or ask me about every cookie. Active X? I'm not sure. I'm on a Mac so I'm not sure if I have active X.
active x is one of Shawns favorites, since he loves Uncle Bill so much, na it is a M$ problem, we will wait for the MasterOU to confirm his feelings on this
Gates will build security into the next version of the OS, because he has to. Macs will have more and more security problems down the road, Apple has problems with their focus by what the security article said the other day. Some Mac users are so confident that they do not ever run AV or scan for spyware or adware, so they will be a target for hackers down the road.
I hope they do, but I'm not placing any bets at this point. Windows 95 was supposed to be uncrashable and Windows 2000 was supposed to be ultra secure and outperform UNIX offerings as a server (all of which is a joke). I have not seen any problems with their "focus". As soon as a company comes up with a better computer/operating system combo (even if my some act of God that it's Microsoft), I'll ditch Apple as my primary machines. But until that actually happens, it's vaporware. People that don't run anti virus software or backup their machines get what they deserve (regardless of platform).
I would just put it; People that don't backup their machines get what they deserve (regardless of platform).
I have been telling Shawn to create a subject header on Backup. It is a subject that is very important and take my word for it, folks just do NOT know the best ways to do it. I know some folks that back up on a USB memory stick, is that what you would consider back up?
Well Shawn, I am asking for a subject header on backup, I hope you consider adding some new subjects to the forum. Good night, I put in my 18 hours today, please send the money by PayPal
When is that coming? 2008? Wait until you see what's coming up. Apple is always watching and always looking at security!! Today they should unveil the newest security features as 10.4 gets revealed. Including this possible feature. I agree. This may happen some day and i'll be a target. But that's a chance I'm fully aware of.
Twister, quit your rebel ways and get some AV protection. Case Closed by Shawn, remember to backup also.
If it didn't cost money I might. I'm saving my pennies for a wedding. However, I may keep my eyes open at MicroCenter or some other computer store for sale. Any suggestions on which one is the best? I'm scared of Norton as he's done evil things before, or so i think.
Norton is the best, they had a hole in it that was patched a while back, but who has no problems in this industry? Now instant messaging is a problem. Hackers will try to find any hole in any system to attack your computer, converting it into a zombie to attack the network, mainly the Russian Mafia. They do this to harvest email addresses and to steal credit card information and files for intelligence.
