I have just compiled the statistics after updating PR as a result of the Google update at the end of June. The stats were compiled from our database of 12,600 directories at web-directories.ws.The update was kind of a surprise, since there was a month since the last Google update. Here are the latest PR stats. Here are comparisons between the current PR numbers and the previous statistics. Directories have been doing quite well over the last two Google Pagerank updates. Please see the complete article and method data for the directory PageRank update.
Hello... Yes i noticed that many directories that where stripped of PR 1 year ago or longer have regained in most cases (which i attribute to PR algo & penalties that some received) Im sure within the next update more will regain there's once again. (which could be in a week or a month as PR is updated frequently nowadays unlike before where it was 3 months wait period) Good stats and compilation and will check out the blog... thx M1
Certainly look like positive stats for directories, especially around the PR 1 through 4 values. It would be interesting to graph the stats against the age of the directories too, e.g. PR profile of 3 month old directories, 6 month old, 9 month old and so on. It would also be interesting to see how many directories that existed 1 year ago are still around today and also how the number of listings in each directory has changed over time.
Between the economy and google im sure plenty where wiped out... Only the established and strong willed webmasters survived. thx M1
Not to be a downer on your statistics, but not until there is a sorting mechanism in place to discredit dropped domains with existing pagerank, the general purpose and statistics are really inaccurate and quite useless. I mean, if for example as exemplified in your statistics, there was a change in finding 101 new pr4 directories, how many of those were dropped domains? How many of them are legit? I think it's time to start really sorting things into a more distinct and realistic/more truthful progress report.
Totally agree with this... Although its good to see directories pr going up a lot of directories these days are built on dropped domains with people believing it will make them loads of money. The only way to see if REAL directories are starting to regain their pr is to check them manually and compare them to 1-2yrs ago when the penalties started. I have a couple of directories, one new one and another that is over 2yrs old, it received a Google penalty and was stripped of its PR and has been Pr N/A for over 12mths up until the last update and now its Pr0
its easier than you think. Just look out for directories with domain names not related to web directories
You are not being a downer at all. You are thinking of general directories. I really did not add that may directories with dropped domains during the last month (a couple of hundred at the most). Although there are an extra 400 directories in the database, the number of general directories actually went down. Most dropped domains have a patterns of starting at PR4 or 5, then dropping down in PR and then disappearing. I have a hunch that Google is also cracking down on them quicker than the old days (they seem to drop to PR0 often these days) In the long run, they don't have as big of an effect on the stats as you think. At a given point in time you get some new ones, some dropping the stats down a bit and some dropping to 0. It seems to be a continual process. The strength of directories seems to be with good niche and regional sites. The majority of the new sites added where niche and regional sites that have been around for a while.
Not necessary buddy. We have directories from 2006 and so do other directory owners who prefer to create a brand name than using a domain with the term 'directory'. Don't you add the rejected url's to ban list? Though I understand nonsense directories popup every minute.
Good examples would be Google, Yahoo, LookSmart, Gimpsy, Joeant I do take suggestions but I add the majority of the directories myself. I add all directories that accept submissions. I record whatever noteworthy information in the database. If I do not add them now I will end up adding them at some other time in the years to come. MAny of them start to sound alike after awhile.
