HELP!! Could adding more content regularly harm your rankings??

    Hello all,

I have a few new blogs which I've been playing around with and some of them have gotten pretty good results.

Before I get into the question.. let me state that all the content I am using is unique. So here it goes:

Could adding more content regularly harm your rankings??

One of the blogs, the most regularly updated one, has dropped in rankings for some weird reason...

Another one of them, the one with the least content, is getting some great google traffic every day. This is my biggest concern actually.. I am afraid that if I update it with a new post, I might face the risk of losing my good ranking. Do you think that this is possible?

Also, could adding Adsense to a site affect its rankings as well?

Would love to hear your views on both of these questions.

    Thanks so much in advance!

In answer to your question number 1. Yes, it will harm your whole blog. Google considers frequent postings as spam these days. Your posts aren't even indexed at all.

Adsense has nothing to do with your ranking.

You can collect the contents and post them once in three or four days. Not necessary to add contents everyday.

Just look at DP forum rankings, how often do you see DP on the number one spot for a key phrase?

Updating your blog regularly WONT harm your rankings, nor will adding Adsense.

    Thanks Brian

I don't think it does, because that doesn't make any sense to do so. A lot of major sites update their content everyday. Most even update theirs every hour or two.

So I think it's something else. Maybe a shared ip with a porn site on it?

More and more content would never hurt your rankings. On the contrary!
The reason for your blog not ranking as high as it used to should be something else.

My opinion is that adding more contents does not destroy your rankings unless:

    1. Your contents where not found by crawlers during visits to your website. ( You could extend the crawling rate for your website at webmaster tools ). This is to benefit from lots of new UNIQUE contents daily.

Sample websites that has over 20 contents a day are New York Times and Huffington Post. Well, they still rank so high.

As far as I know, frequent and unique content will NOT be considered spam by the search engines. Please share the source if someone has heard otherwise. News sites, eBay, YouTube, DIGG, consistently and constantly post new content and they are usually among the top of the SERPs.

I do, however, agree that adding adsense will have no effect in your rankings.

The reason for your dropped rankings would be something else such as your competition or your loss of backlinks all of a sudden.

Also, how long have the rankings dropped for? It could just be a google dance. I would wait a few weeks before I start worrying. Fluctuation in rankings happen often with Google.

Adding new content will harm your rankings if it's a specific blog post that is doing well for a keyword. While the post is on the homepage of your blog it will do better than when it is buried a few pages back by newer content.

I've never seen that either. I host blogs and sites the update upwards to ten times a day and they index fine. And I see scrapers who do nothing but post rss feed content without issue. (Now that ticks me off...)

Maybe if you were posting to an extreme. Say a hundred times a day....
