Homeless, but can afford a $500 blackberry... You just cannot make stuff like this up. Unbelievable. Look who's behind the counter at the soup kitchen.

Now if he were rich he could afford the $25,000.00 a plate dinners with the first dingbat and his wife.

What is your definition of a homeless person? Someone who has nothing? There are many varieties of homeless person, some have nice cars and some have nice material things such as the Blackberry you pointed out.

When one thinks of a homeless person, one thinks of those that carries a cart full of junks or that sits in an alley next to a garbage bin drunk on his/her ass...Not always so...

Some became homeless for a variety of reasons, it maybe financial or emotional or mental reasoning. Homelessness is like other things that cannot be put or labeled to be as such, it should be taken per individual.

There are homeless person that have given up in life and there are those that have not and seek work to get back up in a society.

So if you find a homeless person with a Blackberry or a Laptop it doesn't always mean he had stolen it, he may have been someone who use to make thousands of dollars at some point or is a working homeless person that had paid for what he has and time will tell when he can come back.

When you see a homeless person, thank him that he is not competing to get your job, thank him for having dignity,pride,self-esteem and a clear conscience otherwise he might have what you call a life...a spineless life.

Think about it...Really, think about it.

Someone that doesn't have a place to live.

    Trickle down economics :D

You don't know that he is homeless. A lot of people eat at the soup kitchens because it's a free meal.

The menu looks good. Thanks to Barry and Michelle he didn't have to stoop so low as to eat at McDonalds.

    Hilarious.

Much different than this guys apparently. I've been there, and know for a fact that you prioritize wants and needs, and a luxury item like a cell phone was never high on my list.

Not necessarily. Some people get into a bad spot and need help. Its kinda hard to help someone that can afford a Black Berry and the plan that goes with it. If you choose expensive luxury items over food and shelter, you are not homeless, you're an idiot.

Sure, there are all kinds of reasons.... And one would probably have to be mentally ill to afford themselves such a luxury when the basic necessities of life should be their priority.

Nah, I just thought the picture was funny/ironic... Its funny in the fact that it depicts what is supposed to be someone that is destitute with a more expensive phone than the person serving them soup.

Its ironic in the fact that these are the types of people that voted for Obama. The ones that want everything given/handed to them without having to work for it.

I'm not sure I follow your logic. Why should I thank someone for being down on their luck?

That's just it. I don't think about these things. I tend rather to spend my free time helping... I cannot tell you how many times we've delivered Christmas presents to the needy only to find Flat Screen TV's in their living room...

Being homeless isn't a compulsory requirement to enter a soup kitchen. There may have been another reason he went there like, oh i don't know, because Michelle Obama was there that day?

Lol, he may not be homeless... But if he is not, shouldn't those meals be left the homeless?

What I'm asking myself is that the US has 12 million illegal aliens working, why can't these people find jobs?

Living the American dream includes paying property taxes, insurance, and income tax. The reason you have so many illegals up here, and the reason they can live off low wages is because they are not burdened with the expenses that American citizens have that go along with living the dream.

Not only that, companys will hire them because they can pay them under the table, thus avoid having to pay extra taxes, keep more money for themselves, and pretty much just be greedy.

Right on the money... Government over control has gotten so out of hand that some contractors are taking losses doing work to keep their guys employed and working.

    WHY?

It's cheaper than being bilked out of unemployment compensation payments.

Its pretty sad when the legal citizens are forced to break the law just to break even, meanwhile the government does nothing about the illegal ones that have created this situation.

A lot of the low end work is filled with illegal aliens. Some of the work is even high paying.

Many homeless bums are probably too difficult to function in a work environment but at the minimum 20-30% could be rehabilitated.

Put up some tents out in Texas, California and Florida and have them pick tomatoes and fruit. There's also a labor shortgage in New York during harvest. At the same time the homeless could be rehabilitated to fill construction, meat processing plant, kitchen jobs etc We could call the program AmericanCorp :D

The program could be run pretty cheap. Use some returning vets that need jobs to set up the tents, field kitchens and drive buses to move homeless to where the fieldwork is needed.

#1 This story is realllllly old.

#2 With the current economy there are all kinds of homeless people. You don't need to be a dude pushing a cart around on the street to be homeless. You just have to lose your home. It's likely this man already owned this expensive phone before he lost his home.

#3 Having a cellphone is a very good investment for a homeless person if that person is looking for a new job. How else is he supposed to be contacted?

    Also, this. Great point.

That guy isn't homeless. Hes slinging crack TO the homeless inside that soup kitchen while wating for free food and collecting welfare. This man is to be revered as the new image of the fulfillment of the American Dream. We are all one big happy family.
