Microsoft Unveils Bing - the new search engine

Microsoft will launch in june 2 over the course of a week, a new search engine called Bing. The coolest feature is that you can hover your mouse over links and see a preview of the website! Very neat, their search functions work differently then google.

Besides introducing a new look to Microsoft's search interface, Bing adds a spruced-up navigation for search results, including a new left-hand navigation bar, a hover feature that lets users preview Web pages before visiting them, and a categorized search feature that groups search results by topic category.

Among Bing's core improvements over Live Search, according to Microsoft, are its ability to scour the Web more deeply and to deliver more-relevant search results faster. But the most striking feature of Bing--setting it apart from Live Search and what Google and Yahoo deliver--is the way it parses and displays search results.

What do you guys think? Microsoft hopes to Unsurp Yahoo and Googles dominance online.

Well they said they were hoping to increase their market share to 11%, so I don't think their goals are to upsurp yet. I'm more interested if this changes their crawling engine at all.

I've been testing Bing for a few weeks now, and I'm very disappointed that Microsoft has not addressed the biggest issue that Live Search has: relevance. Google is my default search engine, but I am starting to see how Microsoft's offering is useful in cases where Google simply doesn't cut it. That said, however, for day-to-day searches Bing is definitely a mixed bag. The results for some queries blow my mind: how is it possible that the results can be so preposterously useless? Other times, though, a comparison with the old Live Search shows that Bing obviously has had its algorithm tweaked for the better.

I think it will be good, but for buying things or going places. Seems like the ultimate price comparison search, with reviews.

I would be more worried if I was a price comparison site. They could lose market share.

Bing is being launched with much bang-bang (hype) but it is to seen if at all, it is able to successfully bang (displace) Yahoo from its second position!

I just hope it does not follow the fate of other MS offerings.....down on the floor with a bang!

I'm not sure why they don't just focus on improving their other 2 searches. I am involved in many websites, and the traffic compared to Google I get is very low. I'd probably be a millionaire by now if most people used live or MSN, because their serps are so easy to manipulate
