Man, I love this site! This is a bit of strange request, but it's a problem I'm facing. I'm currently in Hong Kong and am looking to export a wooden sculpture from England over to here. The weight is 17kg and size is 160 cms x 43 cms. I'm looking for the cheapest and safest way possible to transport this wood over. Can anyone recommend a posting service. By air or surface mail, by courier or big name company...your experience/suggestions are mist welcome! Thanks
Hahah ! I couldn't help myself, there I was loitering around a few green digits (tools), when your post caught my eye in the forum block. It's midnight here, and maybe I'm tired, but yours has to be this months classic post. Good luck
haha, could be considered a classic post - yes. Parcelforce is linked to Royal Mail, so I'd imagine it's pretty expensive although reliable. Any other suggestions?
I would imagine any carrier could do it couldn't they? It's light enough that it's within every carriers weight restrictions (I would guess). If you want it fast, FedEx it, if you don't care how long, ship it. Just make sure you get in insured.
Well I think England operates in different ways, so not sure how many carriers I have at my disposal. I'm not too clued up on which carriers are the best. Shipping could be the option but who/how do I go about it?
Do you have someone to pack it for you and fill out the paperwork and SEND it as oppose to you booking a remote pick-up collection?
Well it's joined pieces of wood, glued together - so it's pretty strong. I'd value it aboout 100 pounds, maybe insurance and could break it thrown. Although perhaps a bit to heavy for that! Do you have a company in mind?
We stick everything international on ParcelForce and for this would have to pay around 40 pounds I think. UPS can do it too, FedEx operates here as well. But we have an account which makes it a lot cheaper of course. Just ring these three and ask for a quote. PS you might want to check the ads on top of this page.
Have Richard Branson take it with him next time he takes his hot air balloon for an around the world trip! Sorry for the Hot Air, got an extra room and a few million extra dollars, I want to move to Hong Kong, just send me the money, I will stop in England, pick up your piece and drop in, just have my apartment ready and the money when I get to Hong Kong
hmm that sounds expensive Anthony. I found some options, but still it's pretty expensive to deliver from UK to HK: Parcelforce (www.parcelforce.com) £212.25 - £251.75 UPS (www.ups.com) £175.45 - £296.14 Fedex (www.fedex.com) £157.70 Postvan (www.postvan.com) £198.84
I know the feeling, maybe I will sell everything I have and move to Hong Kong, how much are apartments? I am sure that I could raise at least $49.00 if I sold everything. I can buy a one way bus ticket, can I get to Hong Kong on a bus?
