Does Yahoo have a sandbox too?

I was wondering if Yahoo has some type of sandbox. The reason I ask is because most of the sites on its first pages are usually significantly older than the sites on the rest of its pages, even if these newer sites have more inbound links. I'm talking about highly competitive keywords. Is it a trust issue? How long does Yahoo monitor a new site for before it begins to trust it? The site in question is about 15 months old with more inbound links than it's competitors.

One thing I have really noticed with yahoo is it's much slower than google, but at fifteen months as long as you have properly seo'd and gotten good backlinks you should be ranking well.

This not very accurate. You can get new sites to top SERPs in Yahoo provided you have good content and have planned your site properly to take advantage of SEO.

A good example would be my latest site which was completed 3 weeks ago and is currently on page 1 on Yahoo with position 5. The main keyword has over 2.5 mill results.

It has also begun going up Google's SERPs and is on page 3 right now.

With regard to the OP, for competitive keywords, you will find old sites at the top SERPs for all Search engines. It is logical that many of them are iterwoven with that keyword business-wise and would also have good backlinks as well. Breaking into competitive keyword SERPs is a business in its own right.

Note that while backlinks are important, you can achieve good SERPs with minimal backlinks if SEO was done properly. My site I gave as an example has 0 backlinks right now.

Actually there is no sandbox for any search engine.

What there is would be called, trust time.

All search engines in a way are recommendation engine, and as such they want to be sure your site can be trusted before they recommend your site to their users.

As in any relationship, trust takes time to build.

Hope this helps you,

Yahoo is gradually adapting most of Google like requirements for websites to rank well in their search engine, all the same, it is much slower. I thin they also have a sandbox

there's no such thing as sandbox, it's just a myth...
I agree with Sem-Advance, sometimes you see new sites going to first page and then quickly disappear as they stop optimising or just rubbish.

On google's sandbox, read this:

Quote:
In reply to a question from Brett Tabke, Matt said that there wasn't a sandbox, but the algorithm might affect some sites, under some circumstances, in a way that a webmaster would perceive as being sandboxed.

So, for some sites, in effect there IS a sandbox.
Not sure about Yahoo sandbox, but from what I know Yahoo recognize aged domains and give them some value on SERP.

There is NO sandbox!!!!!!!

Its really nothing but common business sense.

A new business anywhere in the world must earn the trust of people in order to thrive.

As such the search engines realize this is an aspect of doing business so when new sites are placed online the search engines typically will not send them traffic or give search engine rankings for these sites tlll they know that the site is trustworthy.

At best what webmasters see is an aging delay,

The delay for a poker or casino site will be much longer than the aging delay for a local computer shop due to the fact that casino sites often will attempt to spam the search engine where as a local computer shop will not.

Don't make things more difficult than they need be....Its nothing but common business tenets that run the way search engines behave.

Hope this helps....

They say that sandbox is only a theory it happened because the site is new and not yet indexed by major SE.

well Matt says and so google does, so it may not be technically called a sandbox or sandboxing but in effect it puts ya in one. so what do you call that place?

here's some interesting info in this place, from 2005 a while ago so may not be too up to date: http://www.rankquest.com/seotips/200...e-sandbox.html

".....The Google SandBox is a metaphorical term coined by SEOs and Webmasters, not associated with Google, to explain why most new Websites have very poor rankings in Google Search Engine Results Pages (SERPS). The existence of Google SandBox has not yet been clearly proved but there seem to have some changes to Google's Algorithm sometime around March 2004 that denies top ranking for newly launched web sites. Of course, there are exceptions and many Web pages have made it to the top of the SERP in spite of the sandbox, but the sandbox seems to be an inevitable page rank dampening concept......."

I can't find much of anything that indicates that yahoo has a sandbox in my cursory searches...but i could be wrong
