Tracking Specific Ads With Google? Optimizing Google Ads? Maybe Earn More?

I was just thinking it's time to tune my adsense ads for better tracking and
organizing. And I also want to optimize my earnings as I feel SmartPricing is
being a little unfair... (who knows). I currently use a script that does tracking
but, I keep reading none are 100% accurate. So, I want to try using google
    to do tracking.

Here's what I'm thinking... and sorry if it's covered somewhere or if it's a
common method of using google, but I've never seen it or tried this before.
And I did do some searching here first.

    Tracking Specific Ads

Ok, so up until this point, I've been using channels to tracks ads on a per site
basis. In some cases, down to the page. But, I never thought to use
channels for individual ad units. In most cases, there is always 1-3(max) ad
units on any of my sites. So, I'm thinking about using the channels for each
ad unit/type to see which locations do the best on given pages.

I figure this would also add to ability of testing different ad options
(colors/blending) and such. And it sounds like a lot of channel-making, but
I'm willing to try it. If you've tried this, please tell me about it.

    Optimizing Content Ads

On another note, I am also looking to optimize content and ad locations. I'm
big on optimization, but haven't given it my all yet. So I'm starting now...

There is some news (for me anyway)... that google does provide tools such
as bits of code that can be placed in your pages to basically "highlight"
specific content areas on your page. Now, again... I'm no adsense expert, so
maybe this is all old news... but like I said, this is all new to me.

Google offers what they call "section targeting", and will help optimize ads for
your content. So, if ads are optimized, maybe better pay per click?

Here's a code copy and paste from google help center.

There's more info... just search google help center for section targeting.

Ok, well... I'm excited to implement these two and see what happens to my
earnings. And again, if this is all old news, my bad... but there may be lots of
people who don't know this yet.

    Input welcome!

    Cheers:D

Tracking individual ad units would allow for better analysis.

    xtraders,

When you started using section targeting, did earnings increase? And if so, any kind of percentage? 10% 20%?
