Since Monday (yesterday) you can overlay the Google Maps with the satellite imagery they acquired when buying out Keyhole Corp. http://maps.google.com/maps See top right to enable. As with everything G does, it's damn fast and cool as the f word. When I had Keyhole a few years back I remember being able to zoom in further though to the level of being able to distinguish people'es heads, and car makes. Google prolly wanted to avoid privacy related lawsuits for now. Anyway I was thinking the other day how Google seems to be getting a monopoly on data almost. Few can imagine an online life without Mr G I think... I'd like to see European data on Google Maps!
I wholeheartedly agree. I played around with it for a while, looking at the house where I grew up etc but got bored fairly quickly. I even tried to spot Shawns Hummer but it wasn't parked outside. Once it has more than the US, I will probably become obsessed with it.
The Euronaughts are implementing the 'Galileo' remote sensing infrastructure which is more advanced than the US Military GPS based system. We'll soon be seeing satellite imagery at 30cm ground resolution from Galileo satellites. And not restricted by military rules (which can be bad at the same time).
Last time I read about it 2008 was the earliest mentioned. But you know how these things go. The Euronaughts don't have a good record of launching rockets so after blowing up a few billion E's into oblivion we might get cracking on it by 2012.
We are working on changing that. We are currently filming a fake Mars landing in a sound studio in Staines and will broadcast it in the upcoming months. We got the idea from the fake moon landing the Americans broadcast.
Yeah, the astronauts have been practising in Thorpe Park in the roller coster to get used to the fake G forces. Not sure why they choose Staines. Must have to do with Ghetto's and council estates being on Mars so they can mimic the natural habitat and make it look realistic .
Maybe they figured when they were done with the fake Mars lander they could just burn it out and leave it. Big savings on the dumping costs.
i for real dig digital point but i ave a question. ow many times can i let it rip on my own ads before google notices? also, does anyone know ow yous would get people to let it rip on my ads. maybe if i agree to let it rip on thiers. do yous think dis would wurk? its a totally new and innovative idea so i am surprised noone as thought of it. also, da coop doesn't wurk. ***I love this thing -> http://www.mackers.com/alig/
It would be great to see it role out across Europe. <off topic> da coop haz bin givin me some real jip recently wiv ma weight all over da place, is it because I is black? </off topic>
Google just steals my ideas, that's all (j/k)... I bet realtime traffic data is in the works already.
We all are Shawn, we are just 5 years behind and a dollar short of being able to do anything with your ideas This map stuff fits in with all the expansion in Local Search which is the next giant market for the search engines in addition to video/TV search. Sure thing that Google will charge for premium services, not all of this data will be free.
