Pagerank is all about links. The more links you have going to a site the higher the pagerank.

Start reading posts and picking up ideas.

    Good luck with your site.

I suggest forget about focusing on PageRank alone - PR is not the definitive solution to achieving a successful Web venture.

Concentrate more on creating useful content (or resource) around a central theme, then work towards associating your site with other sites recognized as authorities within the same industry.

Cultivating links from just any 'ole website out there - especially from sites outside your specific industry - can disassociate your site with its topic - serving only to defeat your original purpose.

A handful of topic-specific links pointing to your site are worth far more than a thousand links coming from websites with a "garage-sale mentality."

I say links is links and anchor text is anchor text. Google could care less what the perceived "theme" of a web site is - links with appropriate anchor text is all you need. Without appropriate anchor text you are lost - it doesn't matter on what type of site those links come from.

I strongly disagree. Google and all the major engines are moving towards a topic-specific link analysis, with emphasis on industry relation, link text, age of the link and age of the origin (related) website.

If you operate a real estate website, why would you want to link with porno sites, drug sales, hubcaps and old auto parts dealers? Your real estate oriented visitors wouldn't find them useful.

Besides, regardless of what Google or any other engine's algorithm prefers, websites should be developed for people and their needs, not for machines; that is, unless you're only a robot.

You are correct - how is what you are saying any different from what I am saying?

The theme of the page is the most important aspect - not the theme of the website. I write a blog about stocks. One day I make a post about my sister walking for charity and link to that charity site. The theme of the page is appropriate for that link - aka topic-specific link analysis.

Totally agree, this is what stops link farms from being effective. They're spam and Google knows it.

i think you will get to PR3-4 with the coop networks and directory submissions alone.

Plus some extensive link building, article + press release submission, you will get to PR5-6 if lucky :D

Backlinks from the directories also help a lot.

There are a lot of free tools which submit the site to numerous directories... It is very effective.

    Check this thread

    Good luck!
