HTML vs. XHTML

    Hi,
Wondering everyone's opinion on the best version of HTML for SEO considering these versions:
    • HTML 4.01 Transitional vs.
    • XHTML 1.0 Transitional vs.
    • XHTML 1.0 Strict vs.
    • XHTML 1.1 Strict

Assuming error free code on a page, what is the best for SEO? We create all of our websites using XHTML 1.0 Strict for ease of indexing and consistent cross-browser rendering. Also, XHTML 1.1 Strict is not compatible with IE.

    What are your thoughts?
    Thanks

Stick with xhtml 1.0 for now. As you point out, 1.1 is not supported by every browser. HTML may be supported by every browser, but it is less likely to display correctly on non-traditional screens (eg cell phones). 1.0 probably has the widest support of the ML's that most faithfully display your content the way you want it displayed. And ultimately that will be better for SEO than a site that doesn't display properly.
