    Include your links as URLs

    For example,
    http://sitename.com
    Code (markup):
etc. Try to include 2 or 3 in every press release. This way you'll get some backlinks from everywhere that simply reposts it :)

If you think it's useless, you just didn't implement it right. Those who know how to approach it and manage a campaign successfully almost always say it offers the best ROI when compared to advertising and marketing. The problem is that most never do approach it right, because most people honestly don't understand how it all works.

It has nothing to do with niches. Any niche can be newsworthy. It's just a matter of whether or not you or your specific site is newsworthy (and it's the owner's job to make sure it is), and a matter of knowing how to customize distribution to your niche and audience. No one will ever get the best possible results with cookie-cutter distribution campaigns. So maybe that's what didn't work for your niche.

Your press release should spawn excellent results regardless of "niche" if the story is "newsworthy" and it gets distributed to the right places.

Just watch the news for crazy and/or off-the-wall headlines, and then try to create your own newsworthy event that is similar to one's you find attractive in your research.

"Crazy and/or off-the-wall headlines" are actually a bad way to go. If it's hyped up in any way, you're probably advertising instead of using true PR, and many distribution services will reject your release. Headlines of releases should always convey the actual news at a glance. It should be catchy, but never "crazy."

What niche is that? It definitely isn't the case for the vast majority.

Also, how much major media coverage has that approach brought, and have you truly sent them out as press releases, or did they more resemble pitch letters perhaps (which are similar, underused, and where those types of headlines have a better shot)? Have you done side-by-side tests to see how a more news-centric approach compares using your distribution model and decent news to put out?

I'm not saying is hasn't worked for you - I'm just curious, and want to make sure others don't assume it works for most niches, joining the rank of litter on the Web that often comes across as spammy rather than truly attention-grabbing in the right audiences (not saying yours is "spammy" specifically as I haven't seen it obviously).

    Hey hi, Jhmattern
I totally agree. Press release is not only for getting links to your site. But rather it should be something which creates goodwill for the site. You get a quality link through PR.

Entertainment fields. We've found having entertaining press releases too is by far the best bang for a buck promotion-wise. Everywhere in them receives stacks of boring "normal" press releases every day and there's never enough room for even a quarter of them to get any attention.

Crazy stuff always brought in 10x+ the results normal press releases had. However, to put this in perspective, most of the press writers in those fields also prefer to give interviews to drunken people.
