    Hi,

My website is usually on the third place on Yahoo.co.uk for "web design eastbourne".

How come I'm not getting any traffic from Yahoo?

Well, traffic will flow to your website only if they type "web design eastbourne". Probably most of the people from eastbourne visit the first result :).

The keyword is important here. If nobody search for web design eastbourne then you can't get traffic.

Probably your keyword isn't popular and very few people searched for it. Keyword is the power in seo game.

The reason is very clear, very less member are using the keyword "web design eastbourne" search in yahoo search. Even i check at google search, this keyword search volume is only 36 per month in average

I carry out web site design in another part of the country.

I see on your website, (nice free template btw ;)) that you state this: "SME WebSolutions are experts in website creation and optimisation ..."

If you are an expert in optimisation, why are you asking the question? Surely you must know the answer or so I would have thought? No?

It's not difficult to understand why you are getting so few visitors for this long tailed keyword, the long and short of it mate is that it returns hardly any results (searches per month) and for that reason, not being in the number one position, for this long tailed keyword, your traffic from this LTK is bound to be hopelessly low.

Also for a so called expert, how you are not in the Yahoo First Position from just 10,500 results beats me, I could have that first position in just a few hours, certainly within a day or so.

Here too are the keywords that you are targeting for your website:

web design, london, eastbourne, east sussex, web design sussex, UK, website design, brighton, web site, designer, marketing in eastbourne, web design, ecommerce, UK web site designers, development, search engine optimisation, seo, sme, small and medium business, local business, affordable designing company

First you can strip out at least half of these keywords, far too many of them. This is typical of keyword stuffing and also using keywords which have no or very little relevance to your website.

Also you havn't got a hope in hell's chance of competing for many of those keywords used, the competition for them is going to be exceedingly high.

I suspect that you do not know who your intended audience is for your business and basically what you've done is to pick keywords blind out of the hat, hoping for the best that you'll do well with one or two of them.

What on earth for example you are targeting the keyword 'London' for, heaven only knows! Not only do you not stand a flying bats hell chance of competing for this keyword, it has absolutely no relevance to your website in the slightest!

Same goes for these keywords, 'UK', 'web site', 'designer', 'development', 'SEO', 'SME' - a couple of your last long tails are pretty odd ones to go for too.

You must realise that keyword research is not something to be taken lightly, that you can slap a site together and just expect on the fly that loads of traffic is going to be flowing your way - it just doesn't work like that.

Your whole website needs a major redesign, a major rethink if you want it to perform well and to bring in for you a lot more business, that is the long and short of it.

Get back to basics mate and start over, from the ground up and maybe this time you'll get a darn sight more success.

    Good luck!

Exactly the same advice applies to the B&B in your signature, your keywords are just plain weird!

Your car repair business is the same, your targeting keywords that you havn't got any chance on at all, rendering your keyword selection and therefore your website marketing about as useless as a chocolate fireguard.

I would imagine that that business most of your custom would be coming from a radius of 0-15 miles approximately, therefore your keywords in this instance need to reflect this, if the website plays an important part of attracting custom to you.

If you need advice send me a pm message ok, offers there if you need it.

If I can find the time, I'll try and give you a hand to get a grasp of the basic concept of proper keyword research.

Asks a question and not so much as a word of thanks for the time expended by myself and others on your behalf, offering you the required advice that you were seeking an answer to.

Sometimes, it makes you think, why the hell do I offer my time like this?!

It's probably not a very high traffic keyphrase. Try competing for "uk web design"

In SEO language we say it is "dead keyword" no one searching the keyword you have mention. It is better first select keyword that is useful, you can check your keyword popularity in google insight, or google trend.

yep..i agree with you. sitting on the 1st page for non-popular keyword doesn't mean anything :( you need to work hard for the 'web design' keywords and you'll see the traffic flowing into your site..:D:D

I'd experience the similar thing, btw the amount of people who uses Yahoo search is very less so you can not expect good traffic from it.
