I'm at Pubcon in Austin, Texas and Matt Cutts is on stage speaking right now. They're announcing "Google Friend Connect" www.google.com/friendconnect/ Which they have plugins currently written for Drupal, phpBB, and Wordpress. Everyone is welcome to write their own plugin to work with other interactive sites such as VBulletin. What it does is allow easy access to blog and forum comment and posting with a common log in for multiple sites that reference your info as the poster/commenter. He said basically we're all sick of the 14 year olds flaming each other on Youtube and other sites and we feel if they're held a little more accountable with their face and info up there they will likely be less prone to the extreme trash talk.
Interesting news, thanks for sharing will look into it instep to implement in my websites if it's required
I have had it on one of my sites for a few months. I am not sure where they are going with this, as it seems a bit limited at the moment. If they were to integrate with facebook connect then that would make it more interesting. The one thing that got me interested in it was the fact that I could add a comment/rate/review box on a site that is plain html. I have not got any php skills at all and have always stared clear because of the "potential" security hazards. So this suits me fine. (just wish there was more to it). Cheers James
friend connect needs to fix the fact if you accept a comment in error you cannot delete or edit it. you are better off with having a script on your own server
Hello all, Anybody cares to elaborate just a bit on what the supposed benefits are for say a Wordpress blog? Thank you very much.
I recently asked a question about this - if anyone could please answer, it would be greatly appreciated! http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=1266443
