Just noticed Yahoo Search advertisement on a massive billboard here on the high street in south west London. It was the first time I have seen offline advertisement from any of the SE companies for just their search engine. Looks like they are stepping up their branding efforts. Anyone seen them ads around the UK? Do they advertise like this/on TV/in printed press in the US or elsewhere outside of the UK?
Yahoo and MSN advertise. I think it's kinda funny that google doesn't and they are still #1 (or they are in my opinion)
Just a side note. Nobody in North American know what "high street" is. In Canada it is either Main Street or King Street. I think they have Main Street in some US cities, but the colloquial would be "on the main drag".
Yeah, I've seen Yahoo! billboard ads here in Canada on some main streets of Toronto... but that's probably because there's a big partnership coming between Rogers (ISP) and Yahoo here soon...
Weird thing is, all the poster displays is a search box with the word IVY in it and a huge find button. But the whole design isn't even anywhere near how Yahoo search looks in real life. Someone who's hardly ever been on Y but goes there because of the ad probably can't even find the search. But I guess it's more just for sticking their name out.
With Virginia being the home of AOL and attempting to be the "internet capital", there are a number of ads via billboards and on TV from Y, G and AOL touting their services on a rather regular basis.
