Hello there... problem is that i am looking to transfer my site and domain to a new web host ( because my current one sux) , my website was made up of asp.net means all the pages were of ".aspx" now I have converted my site into a blog by copy pasting each of the pages....Now i want to ask when my transfer will be cmpleted and when google bot will see my site, other than the domain it would be a cmpletely different site for it, cause it will not be able to find any of the ".aspx" pages and all the pages will be in post form... I usually get 500 uniques per day from only google, so if google penalizes my site it would horrible for me , so iwant to do sumthing that can save me from the disaster... please if any one can tell me what to do!!!
Your new web host can do transfer files for you. Also nowadays all are transfering files at free of cost if you signup. I would suggest you to go and ask this same question here www.webhostingtalk.com You will get the right answer than from DP.
If you don't want to lose traffic, I suggest you simply pickup and move the entire site as is to your new hosting. You do not want to change URLs as part of the move.
Use 301 redirects for atleast 3 weeks. Move the whole site to new host and keep the old host with all pages 301 redirected to the pages at new host. Dont CHANGE THE URL's
Google count it shadowing of domain, here i summed up the fact, read Successful moving of the website : Suhaana Khan (digital forum url)showthread.php?t=1260620
Ummm You don't want to use 301 redirects for 3 weeks... You need to keep the 301 redirects in place indefinitely. If you remove them after 3 weeks, the search engines will start getting 404 errors for the old URLs when they follow links from other web sites to your old URLs. Once you put a 301 redirect in place, it should remain in place until you don't care about losing the old inbound links (which should have been why you 301 redirected them to begin with).
PS: You can plan on a loss of traffic if you're changing your old .aspx files to new .html files if those pages have inbound links from lots of other sites. This is why I said earlier that if you don't want to lose traffic, you should simply copy your site as is, not change URLs. If you change URLs (file extension or anything else about the URLs), you have to place 301 redirects in place and wait on the Search Engines to recrawl you site several times AND recrawl every site that links to you before your new URLs are given credit for the old URLs' inbound links and link text. This can sometimes take months since some sites are only crawled ever few weeks.
With the change of the file extension, you are in reality starting over again. The Page Rank will be removed. All linking will be lost. And all the 301 advise that has been given; it's by people that never have moved a site. As for the traffic, it will be lost for now. This was not a smart move without planning out the change impacts. Or if you haven't started, then start asking about the domain transfer issues. URL string changes (adding directories) Extension changes Page Rank impact Inbound Link Impact Create a list like this and then start asking the forum on how to solve each (one at a time)
