rent-a-list review - Don't rent lists from rent-a-list.com!

Discussion in 'General Marketing' started by jambon, Feb 24, 2009.

hey everyone, I just wanted to voice my opinion on a service that I recently tried in an effort to warn people to avoid it like the plague.

I'm posting it here for two reasons..

    1. I want to be sure that the DP members don't get suckered into this scam.

    2. Since DP ranks high on google I'm hoping that if people do a search for "rent-a-list review" this will show up as to warn them before they buy this "service".

    So here's the review...

    Here's what they offer:
If you're unfamiliar with rent-a-list.com they supposedly offer to send an email to their list of 100,000 people for only $99. You write up the email and after a short review they send it out.

    Here's what I got:
1.Basically I somehow got subscribed to a couple of their emails lists for which there is no way of unsubscribing and I get a few emails everyday from them broadcasting their latest "sale" - ANNOYING!

    2. It took well over a week to actually get the email reviewed and sent out. Payment was taken right away but the review and send process was the slowest I'd ever seen. there are 3 or 4 stages to their review process and each step takes 2 business days. Once the review process was done they decided to put an additional 3 day hold on actually sending out the email for some reason. - EXTREMELY SLOW PROCESSING TIMES

    3. When they finally sent out the email only 137 people actually opened it (after like 6 days of waiting - it's been at 137 for over a week now). A whopping 0.1% open rate. Which is horrible! That's less than a % and it's not because of my subject line...

I've been sending out emails for years and they all have a huge open rate. And when this is going to 100,000 people... well the numbers just don't add up. Now I know not everyone will open my email but common... 0.1%?? That's just insane! Especially when they boast how responsive their list is and that they love being on the list... blah blah blah - DIDN'T DELIVER WHAT WAS PROMISSED

    Conclusion:

Don't buy from these clowns... you'll regret it. Even though they talk a good game and it seems like a good deal... they don't deliver what they promise and will rip you off 6 ways from sunday. Like $100 for 137 people (that didn't even convert to leads or anything) I would have had better results with google ads.

Just bought 100K banner impressions for $60.
The product I'm promoting is converting at 1/200 and pays $9 commission
If I get 10K clicks I should expect 50 conversion and $450 commission.

    Well, that's just a theory.

I would be happy with even 5K clicks and 20 conversion.

Will let you know my result. :)

    Yep note to everyone

Don't purchase traffic no matter how unique they say it is
Don't rent mailing lists because they are mostly fake emails and the rest are spammed emails

Safelists are never safe anymore. Give away free stuff if you want to have any chance of benefetting from marketing to a safe list. It should both be an irresistible and a time sensitive offer

The only way to get the traffic you want is to buy ligit advertising from trusted ad networks.

So, don't be a cheaskate and decide to fall for someone's scam... Be professional and acknowlege that you can't make money if you don't spend money... No-brainer.

Yes it is always better to build your own list and generate your own traffic. Think about it... If a company could legitimately send 10,000 unique targeted visitors to your website for $20 or whatever many of the companies claim then why would they not set up there own site, promote a product that pays out a $30 with just a 1% conversion rate, and make 100 sales=$3,000??? If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is.

In addition I have used one of these "pay for targeted traffic website" and I supposedly had 5,000 visitors to my website and you guessed it, I got just 1 opt-in! Normally this same squeeze page converts at 35%! Stay away from guarantee traffic!

I've had people try "Guaranteed traffic" services and while they got tens of thousands of visitors, they all bounced, meaning they never bothered looking past the homepage.

    1) Usually any "guaranteed" traffic comes from traffic exchanges.

    2) Usually people using traffic exchanges are there for credits, not for something else.

If you look now at the above 2 facts, there is no wonder that the people you're talking about got only bounces. In addition, if the traffic exchange is an automatic one, then the user may go shopping while his computer surfs and gets credits. No computer will buy anything from anyone ;)

    Hi Guys,

I'm back with update. Infact I've written a full review with my stats screent-shot.

Rent-a-List.com is Scammer and Spammer too!

I wasted 60 bucks... not a big deal because sometimes I lose more than $100 within few hours while testing new Adwords campaigns.

    Stay away from rent-a-list.com :)

I too have had bad results with them. Who is good to send emails out for a not too large fee?

    Thanks,

    Doug

I really hope you will post your results here. I am hoping they may have better traffic sources by now. They certainly have good prices.
