I'm looking for an easy, simple content management system. Mambo seems to complex, WordPress would be great if there wasn't so much comment spam, referrer spam and trackback spam to worry about. So here is what I need. • Simple for anyone to use and figure out • Easy to add a page, or two • Easy to edit content • Not to complex • A lot like Wordpress w/o the spam. • PHP/MySql • SEO friendly of course.
Check out this page Twister, look at all four links on it. http://www.webcenter.squarespace.com/blog-software-blogging-asp/ The fourth one is a link to a cross reference chart for blogging software. If you are looking for automatic CMS without having to code yourself, go to www.squarespace.com and try it for free, if you like it you can buy a plan after the 30 day free trial, you can also run your own domain off of this platform and do automatic syndication of all of your content.
Yes .. except the Nintendo Forum ... let me take that out of my sig here's the entire list http://www.mduhosting.net http://www.sasport.info http://www.realproperty.co.za http://www.partypeople.co.za All running some version of Mambo
Happy Birthday TwisterMC! Have you tried textpattern.com. I think its SEF, user frielndly and admin friendly. The only downside is you have to write the skin yourself. You will get lots of pre-made skins from its own forum.
PayoutWindow, those are some great sites, can you tell the forum how to get started easy with Mambo, also tell us if it is a free download and what type of hosting package one needs to run this platform. Do they have a support forum, if so list that link also.
Mambo is very easy to use and install. All you need is a host that offers PHP and a MySQL database. Mambo can be downloaded from here - http://mamboforge.net/frs/?group_id=5 Installation instructions are here - http://help.mamboserver.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=category§ionid=15&id=99&Itemid=70 Installation is pretty easy, it's just a case of uploading the files, seeting the permissions given in the manual. Then you just point your browser at the installation file and fill in your details - easy as that! There are lots of templates and modules to add on at www.mamboserver.com, www.mamboforge.com and www.mambohut.com There is a support forum at http://forum.mamboserver.com/, though the installation and admin is so easy I've never had to use it.
Wow, great post man, now everyone pad Matt's reputation for this help. Do you have some sites up on this platform Matt You seem to know everything about it, tell us a bit about your involvement with Mambo, are you a member of their forum or administration over there
Mambo may also be included with your hosting package so you can autoinstall Usually Fantastico (cPanel) and Plesk servers have it included
Thanks AC, that's very kind of you! I don't have any sites up with Mambo at the moment, though there are a couple in the pipeline at the moment and I have used it on site I've worked on previously. One that I'm working on currently is http://www.preview.webgemshosting.net/ though it's still a little messy at the moment. I'm certainly no Mambo expert, though I am a bit of a fan, I'd be happy to help anyone out if then run into problems with installation or modifications, though I think many people will be surprised at it's ease of use.
Ok. I got it. You all like Mambo, however that's not what I want so let's try go get this tread back on topic. I'm still looking for suggestions that are not Mambo. I'm using it for another site and I don't believe it to be that great or that user friendly. That's why I'm asking for OTHER ideas. Thanks
Twister, I thought I left a link with a 4 additional links for you to look at, did you happen to look at the cross reference blog software page or not
Okay, that may be the case, but in my experience it is the easiest to use, I don't think you'll find anything easier. A good CMS resource is http://www.cmsmatrix.org/ which rates a CMS called AxCMs http://www.axcms.net/de_axcms_home.AxCMS?ActiveID=1535 as being the easist to use. I checked the site out but it's in German.
Check out ( in http://www.opensourcecms.com ): CMS Made Simple Lucid CMS PHPWCMS Website Baker I'm also researching to get an easy CMS to administer pages that is very SEO friendly and has News /RSS. I have a project on hold because I haven't found a free CMS/ Script to do a article/ review rating system. I know how hard is to find the right CMS / script hope the list helps you
A web developer friend swears by Expression Engine - http://www.pmachine.com/ There's cost involved but it looks pretty powerful. His site is @ www.markboulton.co.uk - made with the software.
