Ask Jeeves does nothing for me and I've never been prone to use it save one or two times out of curiousity. Does this purchase legitimize AJ? Strengthen it? Allow it to compete with the big three? Or just business as usual? Any thoughts from the DP crowd on this recent acquisition?

If Ask Jeeves does nothing then why is the bid reputed to be in the region of $1.85 Billion ? That's a lot of money for nothing and I got tons of that kicking around if anyone want's any...
I guess that's the question really. Is the $1.85B price tag indicative of AJ's worth? Are other sites seeing a lot of traffic coming from them?
Ask is not just Ask, if you look at the following search you will find that they purchased major assets from Interactive/Focus that included the "myway.com" portal and a lot of other properties. http://www.eurekster.com/search?p=Q...5&w=ask+buys+focus+my+way&submit=Search&srt=0 http://www.eurekster.com/search?p=Q...9c807e5&w=ask+buys+focus+my+way&submit=Search
Remember there are several approaches to estimate a business' value. AJ might be one of those sneaky ones who silently are collecting loads of money because they have little expenses... Who knows...
Barry Diller has done these things many times before. http://www.windseek.com/query?se=w&q=orbitz+IAC+barry+diller+purchases&submit.x=14&submit.y=9 He is one to worry about. http://www.windseek.com/query?se=w&q=QVC+Barry+Diller
You gotta love the Wikipedia entry The ink isn't even dry on the deal and someone's added it to the page.
All I know is without fail AskJeeves seems to always be the first search engine to spider every page of my site. Google/Yahoo/Msn might hit it a couple pages and come back, AskJ hits every page within a day or 2 it seems. I don't get much traffic from them yet but it appears they have the processing power needed to run an awesome system
Google is not the only show in town, search is busting WIDE OPEN http://news.com.com/InterActiveCorp...llion/2100-1030_3-5627679.html?tag=html.alert Just like back in the 70's we used to ask: Is Led Zeppelin better than the Beatles Then after a while we quit asking and our Beatles records started collecting dust as we rocked our arses off to Zeppelin
