hey guys i just learned about the MEta-Tag for GEO targeting as i am trying to get my Canadian netbook site ranking higher.

cut and pasted the below from here: http://marketingblogonline.com/geo-tag-seo.html

SEO for 2008 is Geo Tag. Just for a glance, by adding some line of Geo Tag, its better to make your site more Search Engine Friendly. Geo Tag itself contains information about Geographic Location of your site which search engine robot will determine your targeted visitors or readers came from. So what must we know about this Geo Tag?

Basically, Geo Tag consist of 3 element, there are:

    [ META NAME=”geo.position” CONTENT=”latitude; longitude” ]
    [ META NAME=”geo.placename” CONTENT=”place name” ]
    [ META NAME=”geo.region” CONTENT=”country code” ]

On the first line (geo.position) determine geographic position according latitude and longitude.
The second line (geo.placename) determine geographic position according place name, location name, and city name.
The last, third line (geo.region) determine geographic position according to the country or state.

    Here for example:

    [ META NAME=”geo.position” CONTENT=” 40.7; -74″ ]
    [ META NAME=”geo.country” CONTENT=”US” ]
    [ META NAME=”geo.placename” CONTENT=”New York City” ]

Above Geo Tag codes means that the site is located in New York City.

Practically, not all element of Geo Tag must be followed. Or, we don’t need too much details about our geographic location. For instance, if you live in United States, then just give value “US” at your geo.country, that is enough.

If you want more details, just see this:

    [ META NAME=”geo.position” CONTENT=” 38; -98″ ]
    [ META NAME=”geo.country” CONTENT=”US” ]
    [ META NAME=”geo.placename” CONTENT=”United States” ]

    Useful ...

    However, one question:

If I put these tags on one page only, will they effect other pages on the same domain that are intended for an international market ?

    Thanks,
    David Berghouse.

I have a doubt regarding "geo position" number, how could i find for sydney, australia correctly. also what is the number format to enter for that? please help me?.

Also could we use only ”geo.country” tag in source code or we should use all three tags compulsorly ? and what is region abbreviation for sydney city?
