What do I do now? 60,000 pageviews and 18,000 uniques

    Hello everyone,

Firstly, I hope I posted this in the right category.

To get to the point I was wondering if you guys had some knowledge regarding how much I should expect through adsense from having 60,000 pageviews and 18,000 uniques per month from a gossip site I have.

I'm pleased with the amount of traffic I'm getting but I'm a little afraid of throwing up ads and alienating my current and future visitors unless it's worth it.

This probably sounds a little vague and I'm sure the first question will be 'what's your site?' but at this point I'm a little timid about sharing this info...I hope you understand.

Anyways, any comments would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    BlazinCrazy

Congrats on the traffic. From the looks of it, everyone is at least going to 2 pages when they hit your homepage, right? That would mean you have an established visitor-base. Tossing a few ads on there won't turn alot of people off. I'd rather earn than keep 5 visitors attracted to the site.

Thanks for replying Twan. "I'd rather earn than keep 5 visitors attracted to the site"...I really hadn't thought of it as being that simple.

Also, I think I should mention that I've checked out the adsense preview tool over at seochat.com and it looks like it's about 50% of the pages get those "Donate Katrina Relief" ads. I donate enough money to charity and those ads give me a really bad vibe as in they project an image that my site isn't good enough to serve up paying advertisers, if that makes any sense.

I know it may sound selfish but I don't want 50% of the ads on my site to be charity ads.

How are you grabbing such traffic results, if you don't mind me asking?

Just becareful of your ad placement, and it'll work out fine.

About 60-70% of the traffic comes from SERPS and the rest are coming from other sites and regular users. The people that find the site seem to like it (I think). I don't rank extremely well for general terms but if I write about a hot topic I usually fair pretty well against the big guys.

I don't really want to experiment by placing ads on the site for a month. It's like my baby and unless I'd make $200-$300 a month it wouldn't be worth it to me.

Is $300/month realistic for a news gossip site with my traffic?

I've heard that adsense only has a 3% CTR and I figured the ads being served are probably going to be really cheap, like $0.05 so,

    (60,000 x .03) x $0.05 = $90

Am I way off base? I don't want to be spammy with the ads. I'm thinking maybe a leaderboard and a 358px square ad on the homepage.

You can have higher CTR... and bigger paying ads which results in more money :).
Why do you thnik that ads n your page are going to be cheap?

I think the average would be more, about 10-15 cents a click. I'm starting to receive 30-50 cents a click ads so I don't know.

I'd probably start with a small 468x60 banner or 160x300 or something like that, just to test how everything goes. A large banner would probably have a big hit on the way the site looks.

because I'm scarrred I guess

When I first considered putting ads on the site I said I wouldn't do it unless I had at least 100,000 pageviews a month. At that time I had no idea that I'd get even 10,000/month.

Now that I've got my tiny little corner of the internet I'm considering doing some more sites but I'm hesitant about putting ads up for a mere $90.

Shoemoney I've been reading the forums and you seem to know your stuff. In your opinion if half the ads I'm seeing through the seochat.com adsense preview tool are coming up 'Support Relief Fund yadayadayada' is $90 all I'm going to see?

edit: thanks for the replies everyone.

Mariush & everyone else, I think I have no other choice than to test this stuff out myself.

This is a stupid thread because I think I already knew the answer but thank you for chiming in everyone!

I have 10-15% CTR on my celebrity news site(no celebrity image gallery) with an average of 7-11 cents CPC.

I think you should try this.

Trust me, those won't be around long if you put the ads on your pages. They'll be there for about a few days until google figures out your pages keywords.

Why don't you use the Adsense Preview Tool yourself (from your own browser) to see what ads you will get? It only works in IE but it is accurate.
