What SERP tools do you guys use to gather results? I need accurate ones but nothing I try seems close to actual results. Can anyone suggest a program/site that has decent SERP checks for at least google/yahoo/msn/ask?
Thanks but maybe I am doing something wrong, my results still massively differ from displayed, my company is number 1-3 when i search with different keywords but these tools say 44 or more. Any ideas what I may be doing wrong?
Are you based in the UK? The DP keyword tool is based on a server in the States and Google geo-targets the results. You are probably seeing the results from US SERPs in the DP tool while seeing UK SERPs when you search yourself.
Yes that quite probabally is the problem, I keep forgetting it makes all the differance Any clues on a UK based tool?
Go into the preferences in the DP keyword tool and set your default for the UK. There is no exact tool as it depends on which datacentre you refer to, many datacentres offer different results and the serps are always fluid & changing, but try changing the DP tool to the UK and you'll get more accurate results.
Ok thanks guys I guess I will have to keep looking, thing is my boss wants to see 1,2,3's in there not 7-30 that the tools are kicking out, I will have to check manually which takes an age
I did but it's still completely inaccurate, maybe its a UK thing, but I ran 5 manual searches and got position 2-3 each time. Does this tool count the sponsered links at the top (of google) too? that would explain the difference?
Hey kybotech http://www.seocase.net/search-engine-position-checker-google-ranking.php this tool check Yahoo.com and .co.uk same with google, MSN, Ask, Altavista, AOL.. i'm not sure how accurate is that but i got 90% same results..
A Great SEO Tool that has a very accurate SERP report is WebPosition4, We've been using it for quite some time and find it quite helpful, The pricetag is a bit high at 389$ for the professional version.
Google does not recommend the use of products such as WebPosition Goldâ„¢ that send automatic or programmatic queries to Google. (taken from webmaster guidelines on Google) And No Automated Querying You may not send automated queries of any sort to Google's system without express permission in advance from Google. Note that "sending automated queries" includes, among other things: using any software which sends queries to Google to determine how a website or webpage "ranks" on Google for various queries; "meta-searching" Google; and performing "offline" searches on Google. Please do not write to Google to request permission to "meta-search" Google for a research project, as such requests will not be granted. (extracted from Googles Terms of Service ....google.com/terms_of_service.html SOOOO my question is how safe IS it to run these automated queries? WebPosition4 = old WebPositionGold
Why do they move against this? Its pretty stupid for them to hinder people checking things on their search engine, after all we just want to know how we are doing. [edit] Also have any of you actually have negative response/effects from google because of using these tools?
Not really a human can only search at a certain speed, a meta search would hit alot of IP entries all at the same time.
Well, WebPosition4 has a setting that spaces searches and doesn't spam the engine. It's a "engine friendly" setting. You can set a number of preferences about how frequently or quickly the software queries the engine. I'm hoping that these settings will keep us friendly with Google. The software is quite professional and seemingly high-end. I beleive that their "engine friendly" querie options won't be considered malicious by Google.com, but that's just speculation.
Hello. I am using serp tool www.seocheck.org it lets you select the actual IP of the selected google datacenter that you want to crawl for serp positions. Thank you George23
We run Web Position 4 on the same Ip as our local network. Should we do it remote from another ip so we dont get flaged as spamming google to be safe?
The most accurate SERP tool according to my experience is google. I made not very smart blog about it, but in one sentence - u use advance search and set number of pages to 100 - that is the best way believe me ... most accurate and fastest Cheers
