SEO evolves over time and the SEs do as well. There is going to be major changes come the first of the year at Google, but that is to increase their revenue. Getting in the top SERPs will always be a game of skill.

Doesn't this come up every few weeks? Someone new comes out and says "SEO is dead! We're doomed!", only for it to turn out to be a huge exaggeration within a short period of time.

Guess we'll find out soon enough, anyway.

I hope any changes are beneficial to me. Anyway how can SEO be dead? Any site that does all the right things should rank better than any old crap that is not optimized. If it wasn't the internet would be full of even more crappy sites than there are already.

The death news completely wrong. All the SEO methods are working preperly and new site which are getting good traffic through SEO only even now also. I agree that the google changed many things to kill spamers and degrade the site gains ranking through balckhat methods. Now they reduce the forum link value , and also crwling interwell increased , indexing always at least twice in a month etc

I do not think that SEO is dead; I believe that it may just be issues with the Search Engines changing all of the time.

Most websites stay or get good ranks, unless the Search Engines think that you have been trying to deceive them.

Every website is different and can have a good/bad rank at any time.

The search engine companies are trying to keep on there toes and have a lot planned for new year.

    Best Wishes,
    ~ Mike

Well it keeps the people offering SEO in busines...but it is better to be aware than not! It appears (if you did watch the vid you'll know!) that you have to encorporate video, mp3's on your site to get any possible advantage over your competitors.

If you're doing this - fine, but if not it is a word to the wise!

Yes, your 100% right, the video highlights that by Google giving search results depending upon your IP address! However you can use this at your SEO advantage for Geo searches!

Were there is a will, there is a way...

blogged about this a little while back

    http://www.seoibiza.com/blog/2008/11/21/rankings-are-dead/

matt cutts made a video interview the next day addressing that and saying it wasnt really the case, although would start to go more towards that direction over time.

seo's not dying, all the time web designers keep making terrible sites there'll be jobs in SEO

I am seeing SEO is dead since 2005 and people use the phrase alot to catch the eyes of the reader and ofcourse links. search engines have evolved alot in the past years and will keep doing it in coming days so same can be said about SEO Too.

I don't think that SEO will be dead. It just a matter of changes that Google did brings to the SEO world. Yes, true indeed SEO has changes a lot over the past year, but to say it'll dead, is not a pretty suitable word to describe SEO in the future

Well it's a huge reduction in Google variables, from 1,200 to just 200!

SEO will not be dead, however it makes it difficult for everyone to get the glory #1 spot.

Definitely not dead. Just evolving and getting more and more complex. That is it. From website optimisation to assets optimisation - website, blog, videos, images, audio, maps, etc - as all these are part of Google universal search results.
