New Google Search
Google implemented the promote feature for all users today.
This means you can vote up search result just like Digg. Pros - NONE Cons - Prone to gaming Competition to stumbleupon and digg Semi-Auto Search Results |

Yeah I see that also - wonder if it's just for personal results - because it has remove feature .... so I would say that it's just for personal searches and history etc. Not a global effect.
Also it may just be visible for those with a Google account - as your activity is relayed across to your page and a signature is left behind with each action.

I have been adding pages to Google Bookmarks for a few weeks now. It seems like they are trying to switch to more personalized results. I agree that the effects will probably only be visible under your own account.
If Google switched to a social bookmarking ranking algorithm, just imagine how spammy their results would be. Every wannabe black hat would be spamming his site to the top of the rankings. |

Ok here is an extract from the guardian.uk
"However, although user-driven data could help improve Google's main search engine listings, which are often the target of manipulation by spammers and unscrupulous search engine optimisers, the decisions made using SearchWiki will not influence the company's general search algorithms - for now, at least." Main article is here: http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology...-searchengines |

Hi there I was browsing through google and noticed arrow switches/icons next to the titles which seem to allow you to customize the hierarchy of the returned results. I found these icons under the keyword Top Universities in the US. If you reject the result google creates and explosion graphic and that result disappears in smoke
I think this may be googles way of allowing people to personalize the results to their tastes. How will this affect SEO in the future? and is this technology wide spread or just one of google's brief experiments? Here's some more info, this feature seems to be tied in with wiki formatting of google. this is what I see at the botton of the results page. Quote:

It seems Google is testing this with their search. You need to login to your Google Account to see it though.

ya i just saw it & i am sure this will also be a major factor in SE ranking in future . may be similar to digg the more people click promote for a link higher the rankings.
i am bit scared now coz i know few people here who instead of promoting their own link will click remove on their competitors links

I have this too. It's sort of like a digg effect. You can even leave comments.
I am shocked there isn't a 100 page thread about this. It's HUGE news.

I have had it for at least two or three weeks, maybe more (can't remember exactly when I first noticed it)
I was going to start a thread when I first saw it, but thought maybe it was old news and it had been there for a while but I had only just noticed it . It is sort of like a personalized SERP, but I doubt that it will ever give any weight to the normal SERPs.. Google are not silly enough to let people manipulate the SERPs that easily. Cheers James |
