I just bashed together an article for GoArticles listing tips for effectively using free press release distribution services

There are a number of free press release distribution sites on the internet. Submitting a press release to a distribution service can lead to extra visitors to your website if you write your press release correctly and go about the submission process in the right way.

Here are some tips to maximise your results:

* Only release a press release if you have something of worth to announce. DO NOT release a press release without being aware of its specific purpose, i.e. to announce a new product range.

* Make sure you know how to write a press release. Google "write press release" to find online guides. Failing that, pay somebody else to write it for you.

* Make sure the title is short and straight to the point. This is essential as many users and journalists scan down a page looking at the titles only. If a title catches their eye, then they will read the body.

* It is neither desirable nor necessary to capitalize your title.

* It is not a good idea to release the same item to every single free press release distribution site. At the very least use a unique title and make sure that 20% of the body of the press release is unique. It's always a good idea to avoid duplicate content. It won't do your site any harm, but Google loves unique content and so in order to maximise your results aim for as much unique content as you can.
