Wordpress "tags" good or bad for SEO?

I recently started filling in the tags portion of my wordpress posts, but when i look at my site now, i just had a worrying thought, will the lists of keywords used as tags be seen as keyword spamming?

Does anyone have any experince of using these? should i continue to use them or just leave them blank in order to avoid being seen as a keyword spammer

 

Normal use of wordpress tags won't be seen as keyword spamming.

They can actually help you rank for some keywords.

Look at the number of keywords for which wordpress.com tag pages rank.

Well I hate to differ, but I have stopped using them. That is not to say they are no good, I just stopped using them as I use wordpress as a CMS more than a blogging tool.

 

tags helps in keyword ranking and if you are using wordpress as news publishing then tags used to generate keywords in news sitemap.

 

While doing social bookmarking use those tags, it will help you in traffic.

 

I don't know if you have noticed, but wordpress have added the 'nofollow' attribute.

Normal use of tags is good: they are indexed, and bring some traffic, especially a longtail tag. But some people put will have more tags than words in a post and I believe that trips a filter. Even if it doesn't, it looks like hell to humans who will hit the back button.

 

Wordpress tags are good for SEO. Just don't list them at the end of your post. Because then your blog will look spammy. SEO wise, it is a good step. Keep your keywords related and concise.

 

they are very very ..... important - bcoz one of my free wordpress blogs get 500 pageviews merely from the tags.those tags are shown as G SERPS and hence get traffic as not many of them are celebrity bloggers [india ] and hence no competition for me.so tags are very important .if you take 5 minutes for a post then take 3 minutes for deciding on the tags

 

The tags that you are adding in word press can't be considered as spamming. Its very obvious, that the keywords that you are using as tags will only help you to improve your keyword ranking. so don't worry about that..

What I am trying to figure out is that a blog aggregator like Technorati uses Wordpress Tags to organize the articles that it displays in its search results. I actually have some backlinks from Technorati just because it picked up the feed from my Wordpress site (but only on posts that used tags), which I use as a CMS, not really as a blog. Does anyone have any specific experience with Technorati and sites like that as a result of using tags?

If you are adding too many tags, its sure gonna hurt your site. I usually don't add more than 3 keyword phrases to any post.
