    For example my site is about health, submitting it to health related directories.

    What are the benefits? Benefits as in SEO..

    The link will come from -

    a related domain
    a site with backlinks from other sites in that niche
    a site with articles and content from your niche
    a directory with categories surrounding your niche
    a category with links to other similar sites (multiple benefits aswell as SEO)

    Those are a few points I could think of initialy

    Niche directories can actually send you traffic sometimes. I have almost never received traffic from general web directories :) Mikey put a good summary in his post :)

    related category wise dir submission will increase traffic and back links and ultimately its effect your ranking, its increase slowly and gradually in google

    You can get more targetted visitors for niche directories than general web directories.

    Just decided to look at a small and very niche directory. All submissions are either entered or reviewed by me to make sure they fit.
    Has been live for about 9 months with traffic running 450-700/month and very few spam submissions.
    Two things I think deserve mentioning. It gets some very nice (also poor) Adsense clicks and every single listing has clicks.
    I do need to find the time to add some sites and get the category counts fixed. Wish Esyndicat would fix the showing negative counts.

    If you are submit your website in quality web directories then it is useful for your websites, first check that category page in which you will submit your website, that page must be cached by Google. If you will submit your websites as per your business them then it is more useful for your website
