Why does Google Index or cache Digg?

If you think about it the question makes sense!

    Google loves = unique content

    Google Hates = duplicate content

So... Seeing all digg content is duplicate why does Google give then such a high page rank?

Does anyone know what's up with this?

Also the majority of all social websites that have an upcoming page have been reduced to a page rank of 0 but yahoo buzz and digg have upcoming page ranks or 5 and 6

    Is Google picking favorites?

Perhaps Google is incorporating data into its search engine such as amount diggs? It would be difficult to do since I do see Digg pages with the link I want coming up on my searches. I know for a fact that they give precedence to sites like wikipedia and last.fm (music searches).

Another thing of which I can't make sense is that Digg is abused by a lot of people to gain link love. It wouldn't take long to find a gray hat SEO guide to manipulating Digg.

Google hates = "Gaming the system" (manipulating it)

    And yet...

This would be dumb of Google seeing half the content that gets on diggs front page is generated from external fake groups or webmasters voting on each other content not even reading it!

It's not really duplicate content, since digg doesn't actually host the content. In fact, the description of the digg submission is often times unique from the article it's linking to.

Interesting I never looked at them!

But still the question remains! Does Google supports dupe content when it comes to social networking!

I mean I own a social networking website for bloggers and it's all Dupe content and at one time I have a pr4 and now a 3!

I don't really think duplicate content is as big of an issue as everyone makes it out to be. I see sites ranking well all the time with scraped content. I think backlink relevancy is the biggest factor, in my opinion.

Linking to unique content stories + user ratings + user comments makes them get all the Google love.

not to mention the insane number of backlinks digg has. Also there can be a definite bias in googles algorithm towards digg just as there is one towards wikipedia

Still not one good reason! How many backlinks does digg have?

You know what who cares, users ratings means nothing in the eyes of Google!

Page Rank is based on Traffic, traffic is based on Google Indexing and SERP... High Page rank means High SERP and if digg has high SERP Google likes and promotes duplicate content when it comes to social networking!

EDIT: I just wrote an article on this... what do you guys think make any sense?

I also believe that dupe content isn't that big of deal because some sites are just collections of dupe content and some of them fare very well with google. There's so much to it that none of us will ever know for sure.
I agree with scar that the number one factor for doing well in google is backlinks (votes). That is the only thing that is proven at this point.

I must agree with LinkStrong. I have noticed that quality websites (even if they consist largely of duplicate content) can rank really well in Google SERPs and have a high PR (even though PR is not as important as it used to be).

It's the number of backlinks that tells Google if the website is any good, even though it has duplicate content. At least in theory it should. :)
