I would suggest good keyword "research" as well. Keywords that are not only searched for but not overly competitive. Beginners often do not research keywords correctly and are unable to rank. If you have an adwords account you can test a keyword or keyowrd phrase by running a test campaign and seeing if you get a fair amount of impression in a few hours ( or a day). You are not looking for clicks, but impressions. the impressions tell you that people are actually looking for the keywords you choose. Keep in mind that you don't want a highly competitive keyword or phrase. You will get plenty of impressions in adwords but will be unable to rank on page 1 using SEO if you are using a phrase that everyone and their mom is using.
