A pretty dumb question about PR..im new to this so bear with me: If people on pages with pageranks lower than me link to me, will my PR decrease? Or can it only help me? thanks!
ok, so that stands no matter what? Even if I was to have 6000 links from PR1 sites...it wouldnt affect my PR5?
based on what I said before, would I need 6000 links higher than PR1 to raise it, or to cancel out the other links?
See my Article and Chart. All will be revealed. Young historian, this question has been asked an answered at least 50 times on this forum. I would have thought that you as a historian would have done some research and looked at the history of that topic on this site. Do you really think you are the first person to think of, or ask, this question?
I see it this way: You (may) have no control of which websites link to you, so it makes no sense for you to be penalized for an incoming link, regardless of where it comes from. If we are talking about a link exchange on the other hand, I certainly think there might be some merit to the belief that linking to sites considered by google to be "bad neighborhoods" could hurt you, especially if done extensively. There is indeed a tool out there that actually will calculate your esimated PR for you based on "forcasted" criteria. I could not locate the link here this evening, but as I come back across it, I'll try to post it. I'm sure you could find it by doing a quick search in Google. It is a free tool and was pretty useful at the time I was setting up my linking strategies. -- Eric
As your new to PR, i'll also point out that google page rank is essentially pointless - you should concentrate on your SERPs!
No Google will no peanilise you for sites with lower PR, it can only help or not add any value towards your own SERP
Google won't penalize your site for any links to you. If this happened, anyone could hurt their competitors rankings.
