search some paypal tips at Google, found they have zero PR but No.1 SERP, Does this mean PR is not important any more?
Pagerank is and always has been next to useless. It doesnt affect serps and unless your selling/trading links or plan on selling your site/domain it will not really give you any sort of advantage over anybody else.
I think the reason people grab on to, and judge sites on PR so much is because everyone in the world is given a Ranking. This ranking is given by Google, so they must think it is how Google Sees sites and will give higher ranking. Besides Alexa... it was the first Global Website Ranker.
Plus ....it is an easy way to rank since every one can see the PR using toolbar. How does it affect for SERP today is different story.
Not that I put much weight into PR to begin with, but I don't think PR was ever supposed to tie-in with SERPs for sites in the index. Where you rank in a search for a certain phrase and what your PR is really are two completely different measuring scales. PR as I understood it originally (when the hype was everywhere), was suppose to gage what level of authority your site is on the topic/theme/genre it covers. If you had a site about French Cooking and got a PR of 7, then your French Cooking site was supposed to be a better authority on French Cooking in general than another French Cooking site with a PR of 3. Still, that site with the PR of 3 might appear higher in searches for certain terms because while your site is the "higher authority" on French Cooking in general, the other site is devoted to certain types of desserts and when someone searches for those desserts the lower PR site is going to provide the most relevant content. So, SERPs and PR are too different beasts...
one year ago, many people tried everything to build sites for good PR, but now, for a business purpose, I would like to think more about how to improve my SERP. I mean less people will keep watching PR. SERP is more important for business men.
Last year, one of my websites began to show up for my main keywords after I had a PR. Maybe it was a simple coincidence. However, I don't think PR is useless because it would not exist. This would be normal... A high page rank for a website inspire trust. I must recognize that when I'm on a pr 0 page I double check their website information before to buy anything. When i had PR 0 nobody wanted to link to me. After I got 7 on one of my websites, the situation changed.
PR stoped beeing important for years now... All you need is a good unique, quality content website, and a lot of IBLs with your optimized anchors in them.
That site will get pagerank with the next update according to my webmaster online tools. Very inspirative example, BTW, thanks for pointing to.

PR is like a proof that you have quality backlinks and the most important thing in SEO is the traffic, links, and SERP.
