I came across this cool story while looking for Maneki Neko information today:
    -----------
Tama is a calico cat who is the station master at Kinokawa railway station, Wakayama Prefecture, Japan. In January of 2007, railway officials decided to officially name Tama the station master. As station master her primary duty is to greet passengers. The position comes with a stationmaster's hat; in lieu of a salary, the railway provides Tama with free cat food.

Hope the railway station would be free from rats with a cat as the station master...

There's a few vids of Tama on YouTube - just search for *Tama Japan cat* or something similar :)

That's funny. Reminds me of the history of Rome, where Nero made his horse a Senator.
